I know 56gr 2209 is a common load with 180gr vlds but there seems to be a node for me around 57gr. Does anyone else load this high ? there do not seem to be any bad signs but the brass is tough and its hard to tell.... (56gr is spot on 2950fps but the group is not as good.... I may need a tuner on this barrel)

this is a NSW rifle so I dont care about qld,vic velocity limits at this stage (I have other rifles for that)

I used to shoot 59gr 2213 but that was a lower node ...

My saum load is 56.8 of 09 behind a 180 hybrid which is around 2980f/s and more accurate than 56gn

I'm not going to profess to be the fountain of knowledge when if comes to SAUM loads. I have been given more than just a little bit of help on this topic and would therefore gladly give my opinion of results.

I followed an OCW method in the picture below and really liked the 2nd and 3rd POI. Even though I was originally thinking that the best load may be higher (I anticipated 56.3gn) the reality is that a lighter charge for me printed better. You'll see that even though I had a variety of seating depths with eh higher load I never had the same grouping as I did in the first test.



So I made up my mind and loaded as follow:
Berger 180gn Hybrid
CCI BR2
55.8gn 2209

This was the results at 100yards



I was happy with the results on 100yards and the load kept very good verticle at 600yards.
I am not getting super fast speeds ATM, with around the 2900 - 2920 mark for this load.
I will add though that there is still alot of Voodoo on these results for me... the best printing load had the worst SD and ES yet all printed together..??? The best SD and ES load printed with vertical...

I've ended up on 55.8gr of 2209 with two barrels now.

one was 10 thou jam and the other didn't seem to care, both using 180Vlds.

In my limited experience with testing loads for long range at a shorter distance the mag speed is essential to sorting out what's good.
Great groups at 100/200 yds need to also have low ES-SD, then try them where it really counts.
I had a load recently that put 5 shots into 6mm high at 200 yds with ordinary ES, at 600 it was no good...
If you are wanting to tune a gun for 1000 I think that's where you need to test.(I'm sure someone will disagree )
