I'be been reading a bit about the 28 nosler with a view to building a hunting rig based on it, it seems like a really good cartridge to be launching 7mm projectiles from, yet I haven't heard anyone really speak of it in our game, anyone out there have any first hand info?
With a published factory MV of 3125 for a 175gr pill it seems fairly impressive, I could only assume handloads may squeeze a tad more out of it if you were that way inclined, but would you really need to?

I'll be following this as I'm considering building a 7mm magnum hunting rig as well
I saw 28 nosler brass at HPGS for around $140/25 which isn't incouraging, but haven't found dies here yet let alone a smith with a reamer

The 7Saum might be the best option Steve, that said, I was just wondering if the 28 had been considered by anyone, chatting to a couple of people barrel life might be the primary concern for fclass.

Re: Anyone played with the 28 Nolser
For a hunting rifle I would like a 28 Nosler or even a bigger 7mm RUM. There are numerous modern bullets out there now which would hold together on game at the velocities these things push them at and the new 195gn Bergers are popular in these size cases now if you need a real heavy weight bullet.
I wouldn't be worried t all about barrel life. In a hunting rifle, if you are shooting 10-15 shots strings in the bush you are either a pretty bad shot or shooting in a bloody good hunting area. In real life, hunting with one of these, how many shots would you realistically take with one of these in a day? With a bit of testing and zeroing, then leaving it for hunting only, where it wont get to hot and erode the throat too quickly, the barrel will likely keep hunting accuracy for over 1000 rounds. How many years will it take you to fire these 1000+ shots in a big hunting rifle in the bush?
As for using one for F class. No way. Too much recoil, bullets will likely start coming apart and with our round count and shot strings, barrel life for target accuracy will be terrible.

The saum is all you would need in a 7mm for f class. It can lope along at 2950 or thereabouts depending on your node/tuning but if you give it a full load of a slower powder you can get over 3100 with lots of noise, smoke and recoil. It probably wont get you a better score however.
In a heavy fly gun it may be another story i dont know ....

Hi Steve
I have the reamer and built one for a customer he was getting around the 3240 fps mark with the 180 Berger but I haven't herd from him since he was going to try the 195 Berger
I am building another hunting rig for a customer in a few weeks when the action arrives so I can let you know as I have to do load development for him with the 195 Bergers
