Hey guys, this might be a silly question, but are there any issues in buying reamers through PTG? Are there any issues with shipping to Australia or are these things blocked under ITAR?

I am thinking about buying a reamer but thought I'd check in here to see if anyone has gone down this path previously, and whether there were any issues.

I got a few from them a few months back without issue, took a while to get here but they where not standard.

Cool. Pardon my ignorance as I'm not overly familiar with them but did you just order a Finishing reamer?

Yep, if it's just for yourself and it's not going to cut heaps of barrels then just a finishing reamer will be fine. I have heard of people only buying finishing reamers and when it gets worn, it then becomes a roughing reamer.

Not correct at all!!!! anyone who states that has not cut many (if any) chambers!!

Well Keith being a well renound smith you would know. Why don't you fill us in so the correct knowledge is passed on.

Simple really, once the finishing reamer is past it's prime for chambering (lost it's edge, blunt) it will not be useable for roughing. Blunt reamers break!! Blunt reamers need to be resharpened not used for another purpose!!!!

Thanks for dispelling the rumour, exactly what forums are great for. Is the sharpening process performed by the manufacturer or something one can learn to do?

They should be sharpened by a reamer manufacturer. Some manufacturers will sharpen any reamer, others will only sharpen reamers made by them.
