Hi All,
Now these things have been around for a while does anyone have any recommendations as to which is best or if they make any difference at all?

Interesting topic,
I shoot FTR so this would be good for heavy 200 gn plus bullets . Have seen the ones that are integrated into the stock, would need to be careful not to gain too much weight , alter rifle balance , of course it would play with overall harmonics so a bit to consider but possible .

I have 2x mercury in my SAUM, I think they help. Another SAUM shooter has an adjustable hydraulic butt plate fitted to his SAUM, shoots like a 6mm. Imported from USA, expensive but it works, single piston job, google is your friend.

Just talking to him about it, he reckons it cuts down recoil a lot but for $400 he thinks it would be better if it cut recoil a lot more with SAUM. It's set to the max but needs more in his opinion.

I have 2 of these things for sale if you want them Tim.

Tim my rifle was over 1kg under weight so I removed them and hollowed the stock out more to load it up with lead.

These SAUM'S must be something shocking,you are trying to convince us that a rifle weighing 1.75 kg's more than a FTR rifle is too much to handle,I shot FTR with well loaded 185 grain projectiles for a long time with no trouble,this was holding the rifle into the shoulder,now I have another rifle and shoot free recoil with 200 and 215 grain projectiles.I don't think that I am some superman,but free recoil doesn't hurt,nor did a firm hold.I very much doubt that some expensive gizmo is going to help.

Felt recoil withe the saum is about the same as an ftr rifle running 215s.

We must be a little more refined than the barbarians shooting FTR

it all comes down to personal choice.

Cliff,
Mike could be a double for Grizzly Adams(a rough tough outdoors type for those of you under 50).
Probably wouldn't use a muzzle brake on a 50 cal

He mightn't be that but he has to be closest to the oldest active competitive shooter about.
