Has anyone had any issues with any of the CCI primers lately
please leave comment and the batch No.#

I've never had issues with CCI primers -- I only use Federal ( Cannot find a smiley )

The main primer I use is CCI, over many years of use I have never had a problem. There is your smiley Barry!!!!

Search other web sites. There are some complaining of issues with this & that primer, though many seem to come down to the (in)tolerances of the loaded ammo & chamber.

I have had reports of BR2 and BR4 not igniting in the last week
And just want to hear from forum member if they had or seen and similar occurrences at their own ranges lately.

I've had some BR-2s fail to ignite - some were wet, the others I forgot to put into the case . But seriously I've never had a single BR-2 misfire in well over 10,000 shots, so it would be very surprising and disappointing if they have quality issues now.

I have always used CCI Primers. BR2, BR4 and 450 small rifle mag primers. never had a problem over 25 years.
Suggest that you check your firing pin. also check and make sure that there is not too much heavy lubricant on it.
You might benefit by stripping the bolt down, washing it in degreaser and re assembling with very light oil or dry assembly using graphite as your lube. Cheers

Yes I have had issues over the last few months with CCI 450 small mag primers (failure to ignite). Changed spring and purchase a complete new firing pin.
What I believe the problem to be, is the seating depth of the primer. The majority of bullets fired second time around.

I have only had one primer fail to ignite, apparently you should only put them in one way

Thanx for the advice Cliff these failures were not due to the issue you have pointed out.

The problem is that over a week I have witnessed and heard of primer failure in VIC and 2 incidences in SA
the SA incidences were both fired from 2 different rifles 1 a Savage only 300 rounds old (BR2)
and a custom Stolle FTR rifle that has just had a new firing pin assembly replaced in the last few months (BR4)

I had issues with the batch of primers I used in Belmont for the last nationals. Check your plots Richard I would regularly get poor ignition and and one or more out the bottom per detail. I chased the problem thinking it was firing pin / spring related cleaning, polishing, honing everything but as soon as I changed primers the issue went away.

During one of the squad practices I grabbed a box of old ammo. . . . . And had shots out the bottom again.

I have just changed to CCI BR-2 and they seem to have helped my S.D. come down. The only problem is I had a misfire today at the end of my shoot. The first 24 were fine, with the last not going off. Good firing pin contact, hit it twice just in case. Checked when I got home and the shell DID have powder in it.

Had an interesting one last week. Have been using BR4 small primers for quite some time in Lapua match cases. Had two fail to go bang, so double hit both of them. Large indent in the first one, primer arse about in the second! (Duh! Pulls paper bag over head ) Back home, I pulled the projectile and emptied the powder charge and found the closest 25% 6H granules closest to the primer scorched to a brown tint but no sign of ignition. Removed the primer and found it had indeed gone off but without enough heat to ignite!! No water or moisture, a mystery. Perhaps some fault in manufacture? Now call my rifle a "Flinch-lock"!

About 10 years ago I had a BR2 fail to go. Stripped round apart and found the primer had sorta done something - some of the powder at the base of the case had melted into yellow globules. No failures since.

Was present at a shoot when a guy tried to shoot a round with the primer in upside down (as it later transpired after the attentions of a gunsmith). The primer went off (but not the round) and dislodged the extractor, bolt couldn't be opened on the range. Dodgie stuff having to depart with a round chambered.
