Hi all just wondering if anyone has tried the Hornady ELD projectiles?
I've loaded some up to try at 900y this weekend in my case using the 140gr 6.5mm version
I'll compare them to my usual load with the 140 JLK's

thanks for that I couldn't remember any talk on here about them
I am running them .010" jammed my rifle seems to prefer most loads I've tried jammed

Dave here in the shop has been running the Hornady's and Bergers in his 6.5x47 F Open gun. He runs the Bergers .015"-.020" off the lands. The Hornady's .030" off the lands. No difference in accuracy between the two bullets that he can see and his come ups at 1k yards are virtually identical.

I'll be running the 140's and the newer 147's quite a bit here shortly as soon as I get my new barrel on one of my rifles in 6.5 Creedmoor.

Also for the 6.5 Creedmoor we have no complaints on the box ammo that we've purchased as well.

Thanks Frank that is pretty much what I found with them. Elevation didn't change from my JLK load. was interesting conditions with 1-3moa winds at 900y
was hoping to try them at 1000y next shoot but the weather forecast isn't looking good 30kmh winds and 36 degrees that's around the 100 in your part of the world

I can deal with those temperatures and have shot in those temps. but I'll take a pass on those wind speeds if I can!

Saturday was 6 kph wind and a bit of mirage, smlekid was a no show. But an excellent day for 1000yds .

yes I had a Field and Game shoot today couldn't make it unfortunatly

I have used the 7mm 162gr fireforming new brass in from 284 to 284 shehane. Acceptable club accuracy.

I used the 162gn eld matches in a 284shehane at 2840fps at the last nationals. Dropping only two points over three days and was clean at 1000yds.

These bullets are extremely accurate.and the 162 can be driven harder with excellent bc.

I am currently trialling the 180gn ones in my saum.

I also have used the 7mm 162g ELD's whilst fire forming brass for my .284.
Although only having shot them over a short distance (100 and 200 yards at Silverdale), I have found them so accurate and consistant that I will use them unashamedly from now on.

A good friend of mine who is very particular in sorting bullets sent me a text the other day saying that when he was loading up for his .284 with 180 ELDs he was checking his seating depth to the lands with a bullet out of the same batch and came up with a figure .040” longer than his previous measurement. He didn’t believe it and rechecked the measurement and came up with the same figure. He then got another bullet from the same batch and this measured in at his original figure. I admit I was a bit skeptical about his findings and went around to see if he was doing something wrong and using his OAL gauge came up with the same result.

Both bullets were from the same sorted lot, sorted by base to ogive, overall length and weight, which means the only way he could have come up with this figure is if the bullet in question was ever so slightly narrower in its diameter, enabling it to go further into the bore.

He then repeated the same using the “drop the bolt to engage the lands method" and found the bullet that gave him the longer measurement was able to be pulled out of the sized case by hand.

So if you are using these bullets be sure to check distance to lands with a couple of bullets to see if they are the norm rather than the exception and if you happen to come across one when seating them you would more than likely discover it by the lack of leverage force on your press, assuming you are running with minimal neck tension.

Looking at his plots, if he has inadvertently used some of the rouge bullets in the past then they could explain the occasional flyer (6 ring) he has experienced using these bullets.

As a side note I have been trying to get the 147 ELDs working in my Super LR and through testing "may" have shrunk the group size from just over 6 ring to full X-Ring. Will be doing more to see if this can be repeated and if it can be shrunk further.

When I first built my 284 WIN, I tried SMK 175 gr, 180 gr Hybrid and 162 gr A-MAX. the A-MAX shot better than all the rest so I stuck with them.
Along comes the ELD-M series so I tried the 162's and they shot as good as or better than the A-MAXs. I bought a box of 180 ELD-M to try"later."
Well, Later came and went and my trials with the 180 were fantastic! I shot the best ever group at 600yd I have ever shot with this gun! Then I shot at 1000 yd and same thing, best group at 1000 ever shot in this gun!

I will be stocking up on the 180s.

Are you jumping the 180's and were they fussy to tune?
