Loading .243 AI with .260 AI dies

Post by KTM525 »

Good evening all,
Just a quick question, I have a set of Redding micrometer precision dies in .260 AI and have just acquired a 243 AI. Can anybody see a problem using these dies to load my 243 ammo?
Thanks for any feedback.

Other than the obvious fact that the neck diameter is different between the two?

One issue I can see is if you set the dies to bump the shoulder back it will leave a small area at the base of the neck potentially not set back and may create a weak spot after a few loads and you would still need to buy a neck only die such as a lee collet neck die. You would have to use the 260 dies without a decapping pin. It may or may not lead to neck concentricity issues.

I might be overthinking things but those are the issues I see.
