Re: nraa funding of overseas shooting

actually alan, it is i who should apologise, and do so unreservedly.
my choice of words was incorrect.
quite the opposite of the impression, i support tr as a discipline and wish it to prosper.
i also have godd friends who are tr shooters, and hold them in esteem as shooters.

bruce.

Re: Alpha munitions brass

yes malcolm you make a good point. thinking (dangerous) came up with this. would fireforming, followed by pushing the case into a fls die then filling with powder offer a potentially more consistent case outside dimension? then the only thing to vary would be the internal dimension, hence case capac...

Re: Alpha munitions brass

malcolm, you have 2 variables that are hard to control. firstly will all the cases fireform equally? they ideally will fill the chamber the same, but if brass hardness varies at all, clearance between case and chamber could vary after springback. the second is filling the cases with powder. experien...

Re: nraa funding of overseas shooting

not having heard back from budget on his funding as a tr shooter, i would add this. my understanding is that nraa pays entry fees, and where this money comes from am not sure. money calso comes from shooting australia which is in fact govt money, and is meant to assist high level competition within ...

Re: Alpha munitions brass

well it sure as hell is not going to make it worse.
there are so many variables.
even if it were possible to measure the case capacity of obturated cases, that capacity could well come about from different reasons.

Re: Alpha munitions brass

absolutely malcolm. then there are those who think you can measure case capacity accurately. i once did a test whereby any case that had a vert shot was marked. next firing of that lot of cases, the marked ones often were in the vert group, and others produced bad vert. lucky they did not get chucke...

Re: Alpha munitions brass

pete, you are right about inconsistent cases. however, just assuming lapua is consistent without checking is wanking. some of those guys just jump on a bandwaggon to look good., and so the legend builds. and you can get consistency in other brands by doing a bit of thinking/work. even lapua takes wo...

Re: Alpha munitions brass

sungazer, there was a time when it was derigeur to use large rifle magnum in bpcr loads, AND drill out the flash holes bigger as well. you had to do it to have a chance. well now large rifle pistol is doing a better job, and some people are even using special tools to close up flash holes. most are ...

Re: Alpha munitions brass

adam,
if you can, try winchester as a control.
how many times do you read about some wanker on 6mmbr that won't get a chambering unless it can use lapua brass?
now they will have to get this stuff!
i want brass that can read the wind and counters bending light.

Re: Alpha munitions brass

their low s.d, for 6 shots is bordering on a case of flase advertising.
this no of shots is irrelevent to good s.d. practice.
