Re: Given Current Component Availability...

Thinking outside the box a little. How do the 90’s go in a 22BR?? The 22BR with 90gn pills punches above its weight. When i first started in F class I used a 22BR to win a few queens and scoped quite a lot of 60.9 and 60.10s with it. I still have a slower twist 22BR running 75gn pills and it has al...

Re: Given Current Component Availability...

Ken Melgard has a new 184gn 7mm bullet so it might be time to give our local supplier a run!! I would give them a go just so didn't have to support the US team. Are they ready yet?? I'll contact Ken direct. Geoff They are on his updated price list, I have emailed Ken waiting for a reply. In a Saum ...

Re: Given Current Component Availability...

For Club shooting only or maybe a prize meet here or there the 6BR or any of its variants (Dasher,BRA,BRX etc) would be my pick. They are not fussy on Bullets and they are still very cheap compared to larger cals. Powder is easy and with only 30-32 gns of 2208 it lasts for ages. Accuracy wise there ...

Re: 7mm SAUM Rechamber/Barrel Life

FWIW , I have tried probably every form of Carbon removing solvent over many years and the best one i have used for removing and softening up carbon is Helmar. You will still need an abrasive periodically but Helmar is great for loosening up Hard carbon is Saums . Brett, Is that H4000 Silicone Oil?...

Re: 7mm SAUM Rechamber/Barrel Life

Hey Azzo , If it is VERY heavy carbon you can get it out just takes some work. If your going to re chamber I would try it anyway but you will need clean it bare and maybe Iosso may be the only thing that will touch it!! ALL the carbon needs to come out so soaking for a few days may help but all depe...

Hey Azzo , Hard to tell with photos but looks like a lot of hard carbon underneath that copper in A3 and A5.

Re: 7mm SAUM Rechamber/Barrel Life

Peter , @ 3000 plus and 62-63 odd grains of 2217 i found it harder to keep it grouping tight in terms of gun handling for a whole days shooting. Then trying to string 5 days together in a Queens I found the 2209 at 2920-2940 was just a lot easier to shoot and the gun tracked better so i stuck with w...

Re: 7mm SAUM Rechamber/Barrel Life

I have seen a similar effect with 2209 vs 2217 in the SAUM. With 2209 i generally see firecracking start to appear about 1 inch past the throat/Lead , which is where the hard carbon starts to build up also hence the high heat of the 2209. Interesting is that the Lead tends to not move as much as you...

Re: 7mm SAUM Rechamber/Barrel Life

Macguru , These figures of 900-1000 rounds are with 2209 which is very STOUT in the SAUM at 2950+ hence the reduced barrel life but the trade off is they are VERY Accurate and consistent. You can however double the life with slower powders like 2217 but they can be a little tricky to keep tuned but ...

Re: 7mm SAUM Rechamber/Barrel Life

Marty , I have run a few Saum barrels out and found that with 2209 and 2940 avg I go for between 900-1000 rounds before I re chamber. I have gone to 1400 but found by then it was not worth the rechamber as the throat erosion was too great . I have done 3 re chambers in the 900-1000 round mark , set ...
