Vic Firearm Safety Course

#1 Postby Lefty » Sun Sep 09, 2007 11:58 am

Hello quick question for Vic shooters.

Booked to do the firearm safety course and was given a date of the 28th of November.

Is it normal to have a 3 month wait to do the course ? is there that many people getting licences that it entails a 3 month wait or are they only held every 3 months ?

Is the safety course only held by the police or can it be done elsewhere?

Thanks

Lefty,

I believe the frequency of courses depends on where you are in Vic. If you wanted to do it sooner you could possibly contact DFOs in other areas, and travel to do the course.

As far as I know, all safety courses are arranged by the police, although they are not always present at the courses.

Lefty,

Courses in Geelong are held on demand which at the moment is weekly.

VicPol organise the courses but they are run by volunteers. One of our Geelong Rifle Club members runs some of the courses here. That delay is ridiculous. Seek advice from DFOs elsewhere.
