Welcome Chippy,
Take your time to look around, see what is being used, ask questions, and probably a good idea to start off in F Standard. Most shooters will gladly pass on information. Good advice is to buy good gear at the start. The old addage buy once and cry once applies. Good gear will last a long time. The only replacement is barrels.
Enjoy this great sport.
Cheers,
Trevor.

Go to a shoot, I don’t know where you live, but I’m pretty sure it’s universal to have a rookie try equipment, for the devious motive  of getting you to come back again and again, like drug dealers really

What class are you most interested in? Although it's pretty hard to go past Barnard for any configuration, Glass is by far your best return on investment in this game, I personally would go top tier optics on a factory rifle if I had the chance to start over, on a budget that is, which is the biggest limiting factor, there is no top end to spending #-o
