i stand to be corrected, but i was under the impression that muzzle brakes were allowed in IBS HG 1000yd BR and HG IBS 600yd BR, because originally, muzzle brakes were only legal on light guns.

if light gun shooters wished to enter heavy gun, they were required to remove their muzzle brakes.

so i suppose given the potential recoil of some of the legal light gun calibres once their brakes were removed (not to mention very likely retina damage), the rules were adjusted to allow muzzle brakes across all 1000/600 IBS BR classes of competition.

if this was not the case, i would welcome any other explanation.

off the subject, and once again standing to be corrected, a while ago, i think i read on the NRAA website that the total membership was around 6000 members.

is anyone able to provide an approximate up to date NRAA membership number????

referring back to the IBS 600yd BR concept, in my opinion, the challenge of tuning and developing any precision rifle to shoot small groups and high scores (blind) at either 600 or 1000yards has to be actually experienced to fully appreciate, the difficulties involved.

not to mention, the added emphasis on condition interpretation and estimating the required allowances between or for each blind shot.

Sounds like a good idea.
I would have a go at it if it was held in a local area.

does this have to happen at 600yds or can it happen at 500mtrs , and or 300mtrs or both , ? to make it more wide spread ? Chop, ps , 500 FLY site would be good for you blokes to look at ? and yap , how about 300 and 500 belly floppers or bring your bench ? with standing targets ?

The targets come back , put on the wall for you to look at , no marking , no scoring , no challenges, no slow marking issues, not much waiting , dont have to lay on the ground , good for old blokes like Rod Davies,  and take your targets home :D Chop

in answer for your first question, 600 yards is the required distance for this discipline.

although similar in some respects to 1000yd BR ( sighting/record target times etc), 600 yard BR competitors host group and score and an agg of each for 4 targets and no shoot off.
Score tie is broken by group and vice-versa.

IBS 600yd BR targets are available from the national target company (http://www.nationaltarget.com/index.php ... rgets-c-29)

IBS 600YD BR

Heavy Paper
600 Yard, Bench Rest
Printed in blue
Size 21" x 24"
Priced per 100- $46 US

IBS 600yd records are listed at - http://internationalbenchrest.com/records/long_range/
e.g.
LG group is .336 inches
HG group is .404 inches

as per IBS 1000yd BR, 600yd BR is a recognised International discipline and competitors, if they wish, would be able to make genuine comparisons between their results and those achieved across the many ranges in the USA.
