A Kiwi Introduction

#1 Postby tentman » Wed Mar 23, 2016 5:30 pm

Hello Guys (from "across the ditch" in Invercargill)

I've been looking at a lot of competition forums and I have to say that this is the best forum on the net for F Class, I've already perused several threads, and gained a lot from them, some of them like the "Recoil & Stock design" thread contain information that is simply nowhere else obtainable, and believe me I've looked.

My shooting background is mainly hunting related and I have a modest collection of original Mauser sporting rifles. Although I did shoot some small and fullbore before I was 20 (that was more than 35 years ago !!) recently I have gotten back into "accuracy stuff" and bought a Ruger Precision rifle in 6.5 Creedmoor. It has been followed by a much worked over Omark in 223 (built by the late Din Collings, a name that may be familiar to some of you older guys who have shot trans Tasman matches) and I'm going to concentrate on the 223 Omark shooting FTR on our local range to 600 yards.

The Omark is not a limitation, I have already discovered that I am my biggest handicap, I can go and shoot 3 to 5 v-bulls in a row then drop a 4 and/or some 5's. However I'm approaching it in the same way that good golfers do, I'm going to play to lower my handicap rather than just shoot a score better than some other bloke.

I have many, many questions, I hope for your forebearance if they are a bit obvious, I know that on most forums the longer serving (suffering?) members have already seen and answered similar questions many times.

Cheers
Foster

Welcome aboard Foster. There are many experienced Omark tinkerers on here so hopefully you'll get the advise you need.

I like Invercargill, because it has the best oysters in the world. :D Can you still get them in batter with fish & chips?

Just had some beauties on Bruny Island. Prior to that I'd thought the best came from Bluff.

Hey Barry
Vicki and I just had some fresh Bluff oysters in Wanaka this arvo - bloody great!
Along with some Emersons Pilsener from Dunedin!
But hard to go past some Coffin Bay as well?
Like most sea food as long as it is fresh it is great!
Cheers

You bet!! Eileen and I have made several visits to Coffin Bay and hope to do so again this year. We camp in the national park and oysters are always on the menu.

You can say what you like about Tassie oysters, but do you have proof??? Take a look below at what is said on that little island down the bottom of NZ. These are irrefutable facts coming from a highly respected world tourism authority. And while you're there have a look at what they say about the other small coastal island to the west

Are you doing some F/TR over there on those Silver Mountain ETs?

Just some R&R Alan and bumping a few bunnies off!
Vick and I managed 70 in an hour and a half through to dark yesterday evening.
Went to spectate a "mountain challenge" next door property last weekend.
8 shooting stations from start around 1100M elevation to finish at 480M.
Distances from 340 yards to 1100 yards.
Met a girl from Invercargill who shot her TR rifle with peep?!
I ended up helping at station 2 with 2 steel gongs at 880 yards.
Very hard to see with naked eye and she ended up hitting the larger gong with the 3 rd shot!
Driving rain and wind made it quite impressive?
Gongs were about 2 Moa though and the serious guys were all using lightweight braked .338 Lap.

Only thing missing from Otago is a 1000 yard range!

C u at Belmont in June?

Now you mention it, I have had the feeling of being watched lately. There's a very suspicious looking mob of cattle in the neighbour's paddock. :D
