Water soluble sizing lube?

#1 Postby BATattack » Mon Jul 01, 2019 1:56 pm

I have been using imperial sizing lube to FLS cases and then rinsing them in a tub of shellite to remove the lube so i don't need to put them back in the tumbler.

It works well but wondering if there is a good lube out there that is water soluble (even with detergent) so I can get away from breathing in shellite fumes.

I use the exact same method so will watch this feed with great interest
The only difference is mine is in a very open shed, not a closed little room

I've used RCBS Case Lube - 2, which is water soluble but it's not as effective as the traditional wax lubes. Besides, after rinsing you have to dry the cases either atmospherically or in the oven. You can get residue remaining from the suspended detergent in the water droplets.

I use degreaser to wash the cases after sizing. A 1/4 cup degreaser add about 1ltr water, put in ice cream container and agitate for about 2 minutes, drain, rinse in hot water, drain and dry in a towel. Shiney and clean.

I only use a very small amount of imperial lube on the outside and it wipes off easily with a bit of paper towel.

I also simply wipe off the lube with paper towel and never remove the last traces back to perfectly dry brass.
Cannot see any downside. It is a pain but reckon the alternative of washing and drying takes just as long.

Each side of a panel of paper towel does about 10 - 20 cases then it is discarded. This method makes the cartridges immediately available.

Adam try Brakeclean instead of Shellite, cans are cheap from Repco , just spray a small amount on a rag and it will clean off ALL oils and grease. its still a solvent but no where near as potent as Shellite.

Good one Cheech. :D But i generally wipe the case lube off like the other guys. If fire forming a lubed case can assist the process.

I just use a little iso alcohol on a rag or a couple of pumps over a batch of cases then wipe off.
