308 ADI Factory Ammo

#1 Postby tom1 » Mon Aug 03, 2020 3:24 pm

What have those that have used the new factory ammo found in regards to performance ?
I purchased 120 rounds last week and will be using them soon. Currently I reload using Winchester brass with 45.5 gr of 2208
Has anybody reloaded the ADI brass ? Have you used the same powder load as you did with Winchester brass or had to vary it ?
Has anybody weighed the ADI brass after firing and depriming and compared it to Winchester ?
Thanks in advance
Brad Probert.

Hi Brad, i cant speak for the new ADI factory ammo brass, but the unprimed ADI Brass that I was using was of good quality, and alot thicker than Winchester NRAA factory brass. In the two bags from the same batch that i bought they were fairly consistent and much less deviation in weight than you will see with winchester brass. I understand that batch to batch it can vary though.
With loads, in comparison to Lapua it was around 0.8 to 0.9gr less 2208 for the same velocity.
Dont know how that will compare with winchester loads.
Cheers
Adrian

Got me interested so I just went and weighed mine. Sample of 30 cases
My ADI (purchased as brass) after around 20 loads, trimmed many times and neck turned. 185.8 to 186.6. Most at 186.2 to 186.4. Surprised how consistent.

Some club winchester brass that i reload for club rifles. 20 cases was enough to see the trend (once fired ready to load) Low 152.9 high 158.9. No two even close to each other.

For reloading i would not go near winchester brass.

Out of interest, similar results to another club member shooting target rifle, and was trying to ecplain high and low shots. Weighed his winchester brass and its all over the place. New ADI Brass, very consistent. He just changed and i believe threw out the win.

Thanks Barry & Adrian,
those weights you have recorded for Winchester brass is very similar to what I have found over the years. Anywhere from 154 gn to 161gn. I tolerated it because I had dozens of once fired brass and sorted them into batches of 50 with half a grain variation. Worth doing ? probably with that variation maybe anal going to half a grain but only had to do once and one less thing to worry about whilst I was shooting
Will change over to the ADI brass and back my powder off to 45 gn of 2208 to start with.
Given the powder supply problems in WA may have to use more of the factory rounds.
Cheers.

I made a post earlier about the weights of the ADI cases where I found up to 8 grains difference in once fired cases with their original primers! There were 6 in that lot of 100 or so I weighed.

I think you should weight everyone you intend using.

I can't get the velocity I want using 2208 with up to 45.6 grains pushing HBC to around 2950 fps with zero jump and up to 60 thou jump. I want to try 8208 next.

What load of 8208 are people using please in these cases?

I recently weighed 100 ADI cases and there was 2.5gr spread across the lot. Seem very consistent. Make sure you deburr flash holes there were some rippers in there. Otherwise seems like good brass

Agree Brad, its reasonably decent brass. I have run a batch of cases for around 15 to 20 loads, and its still going strong, and was still getting good scores and consistent velocities (low SDs). I only changed back to Lapua as i was chasing a higher velocity node and couldnt squeeze enough 2208 into the cases.

I have found both the original Comm Games ADI Berger Factory Ammo and the new ADI Sierra Factory Ammo to be excellent.
I have not yet reloaded the ADI cases, my preferred powder is 8208 in Lapua Palma cases.
