Sako 85 Triggers... help

Seeking technical advise in regard to improving a Sako 85 trigger. I have a nice Sako 85 varmint hunting rifle in 223 which shoots pretty well, however I don't love the trigger, as it's much to heavy for a varmint rifle. Sako offer a nice set trigger but it costs quite a lot and I know there are aftermarket triggers for Sako 75's and other models, but I can't find any details about reasonably priced replacement triggers for the 85 model.

Does anyone have any positive experience with lightening their Sako 85 triggers, without costing a heap of money ?

I don't like the standard trigger in the 85. The set one was ok, but the inability to keep the trigger set while cycling the action was an arse ache. The CZ 527 set trigger is superior in this aspect. I sold the rifle, but if I was to get another 75/85 I'd buy a Bix n Andy and be done with it. In my L461 I run a Maddco trigger and there is nothing better, but these won't fit to the later guns.

Grahams, I am not as gunsmith. Is it relatively easy to replace the springs ?

I am as dumb as a box of hammers & replaced mine in about 6 minutes ..... easy as.

get a remington 700 and put a decent barrel and trigger on it.
all sorts of triggers and other stuff fits rems.
set triggers, while being lighter, just increase lock time, so are a step backward.
the fact that sako offers a set trigger at all suggests which century they live in technologically, and it is before the 20th.
their marketing and their rifles are on 2 different levels.

What are your expectations of this trigger considering it is a hunting/varmint rifle? I have resprung and tuned many of these triggers to a crisp 1kg weight that actually feels lighter. It's not always the weight of pull but it's break that counts with a hunting trigger.
Bruce, I am a fan of Remingtons, but I can't agree with all of your comments Re Sakos. I do agree with you on set triggers and lock time.....but this is a hunting rifle!!!

Keith, I am not expecting a Jewell type of trigger feel, just something around 300-400gms - I like head shooting rabbits at distance, so even 500gm pull, let alone 1kg is too much in my opinion. I have a nice 308 Win Remington that has been sharpened up by Matt Paroz and it is very accurate and nice to shoot, but it has a custom Maddco barrel.
I really like my 223 Sako, for a factory rifle it's actually pretty accurate, it's just that I don't like the heavy trigger pull and let off. I might try what Grahams suggested, replacing the spring?

As I indicated, respringing is the key to tuning these triggers. Sometimes there is a bit more to it than just respringing, but in most cases respringing will result in a very acceptable 1lb trigger.
