303B 174gr Sierra Load

#1 Postby Seddo » Wed Feb 08, 2012 8:50 pm

Hi guys,

I have purchased a Mk4 303 to use in my clubs annual Commando 300y shoot in march. I was given a 2208 load on the range one day but forgot what it was so i was wondering if anyone can give me load data to make the 174gr SMK have the same velocity/trajectory as the military ammo?

I set up a dummy round to the length of the magazine as i was told this was the best way to do it. I have 2206H, 2208, 2209 on hand as i was planning to load a few round to shoot on the weekend. If no one had any ideas i will just work up top a max load of 2208 as it give me the 2500fps i am aiming for.

This will also be my first attempt at using peep sights so it will be interesting to say the least.

Seddo,
I'm using 40grns of 2208 behind a 174 Hornady FMJBT for SSAA military rifle and that load regulates pretty well in my No4 Mk1, my rifle has a 2 groove barrel and seems to like 2208 a lot have previously used 2206 & 2206H with acceptable results but it seems to prefer 2208.

I'm using 42.1 gns 2208 in my 303,

and that duplicates the Factory PMC 174gn Sierra

I have used 40 and 41grains of 2208 also 45 grains of 2209. Remember you are shooting 300 yards, there is no need for bone-crunching loads.Pleased to see you having a practice, more than once I have seen people unable to get a hit because the rifle hasn`t been fired in years and since that time sights have been swapped and replaced.
Enjoy yourself.
Mike.
