Remington XR100

Has anybody bought one of these? They look to be just the business for a beginner in F-Open, I see the SARA store has them for sale for around the mid $1500's.

I've got a couple of people interested in getting into the sport, just wondering if there are any good experiences with them here?

I am guessing you are going to try one of the 223 for F Class. The twist is not fast enough to stabilise the heavy match bullets, so I feel that this rifle would not be a good option.

The twist is 1:12, and you will need 1:7.5 I believe for the new 80-90 grain projectiles.

For a pure varmint rifle, they are excellent. My one shot very well, the best factory rifle I have owned.

You could buy one in 22-250, screw the barrel off, sell and then chamber for a 6mmBR??

XR-100

I just bought the XR-100 you're referring to from the SARA store. Sure enough, I got a 22-250 to rebarrel in 6mm BR. The gunsmith I gave the action to for blueprinting said it required very little attention to true it.

I could only get the 40X trigger down to 2 lbs, but I plan to shoot this rifle from a bipod, not a rest. It would be a good trigger set at 1.5 kg if the rifle was rebarreled in 223 or 308 for FS.

My only sore point with the rifle as a package is that the butt of the stock is not shaped to ride a rear bag very well, but this may not be a problem with the minimal recoil of the 6mm BR.

Regards
Ben

Thanks Ben, my intention is to help set a couple of people up for F-Open in the near future, and from what I can see, the XR100 would be a good platform to start from, doing exactly as you have suggested, with something in a .308 boltface and re-bbl to something more F-Open oriented.

Thanks for the feedback.

Cheers.
