Finally got the new rifle to the range. Very happy all up. No fancy groups due to North Arm being too windy for my skill set...but in some more consistent patches the shots went exactly where I was aiming at 300m. Shot my best ever 5 shot group but was in the 5 ring. CRM have provided me with a good FTR rig that shoots way better than I do yet...
The action is very smooth; no problems with extraction (new ADI brass used with 185jugs; mild load working up); the trigger is ok; and the factory laminated stock was good in the rear bag and I think is a nice looking piece of ply.
I ended up changing the factory rail to a Lithgow 20moa one and fitted MDT rings with the built in spirit level (great looking rings; expensive $265 set; hard to see the small bubble on the front ring but works ok).
Fitted up the NF comp which is sensational.
As luck would have it my matching Lithgow 223 arrived yesterday (ordered Jan 2016) so I had a quick hit with it as well. Bog standard with factory ammo (ADI with 69gr Sierras) and a second hand NXS 8-32 it is fantastic. Again the wind was too much for me but it had good elevation and might just become my club 300m/400y rig. So easy to shoot.
I think I am besotted with the Australian Made aspect of my new pigeon pair so this information is totally biased! Both rifles are probably a bit dearer than any other equivalent brand factory setup (Tikka clones in many ways).
I intend to shoot the upcoming North Arm/Lilley District comp so the proof will be in those scores...should be able to see a gain compared to my old Remington 700.

Glad to hear that initial long awaited tests are fine?
The Comp scopes are still the optical benchmark for target scopes.
Cheers

Thanks to the team at CRM Shane for supplying a good rifle. I will call you for a quote on another NF comp...was impressed they supported the Aussie team too.

Now if only I could get some 200.20x Bergers.....

Just a quick update.

Thanks to ShaneG I have now developed a promising load for the 200.20x Bergers.[img]

5 shot group at 200yards off the bench at SSAA Belmont. Slight left to right breeze. Hot load to get to the recommended velocity.

Yep Northarm is without a doubt one of the most hardest ranges around in the hotter months ! Nice groups !

I inquired to Lithgow Small Arms regrading a switch barrel proposal for F class shooting.Their reply is self explanatory. This proposition was a no go for me.

Sir,
I had our head designer have a look at what you are proposing, this is his observation

it is possible but would require some gun-smithing as there are a couple of holes (front guard screw and mag well screw) that are drilled and tapped into the barrel after the barrel is torqued to the receiver.
The issue here is the torque required to align these holes would vary from barrel to barrel along with head space to some degree

Looking good - let us know the results at further distance?
