Re: LAPUA 308 BRASS
just opened a new box had 7 out of 36 that would not chamber.
got home & checked more, same issue.
in 10 years of using lapua brass, I've never experienced these issues.

Are they small or large primer pocket brass? Not that it matters im just curious...
Quality of Lapua brass has been in decline for some time now, not what it once was...
Cheers

Re: LAPUA 308 BRASS
Had 2 or 3 with neck damage in each of 3 boxes that had to have a neck die over them to fix if you look at the Lapua web forum you will find that a number of shooters have had the same problem and not just with .308 cases.

What’s a suitable alternative?

Peterson brass is probably worth a look.

Brass should not arrive like that. That said I prep all brass before firing, resizing with Lee collet die which has a mandrel that the outer collet sizes onto which fixes most neck dent issues. Next I trim etc so unless damage is serious most dented necks end up perfect.

I use the new ADI cases exclusively now. I can't justify the extra money and I reckon they are just as good. They are just a bit smaller case capacity than lapua

Re: LAPUA 308 BRASS
Interesting discussion. So are we ( as in many of us comp shooters ) buying Lapua cases just because they are SUPPOSED to be better than the other choices ? I am as I've just assumed they were. I never weigh them ( as I suspect it's just another fairy tale that it's worth doing that ) so I don't know if they are in fact relatively even in thier weight spread compared to other brands?
I do always uniform the neck walls of my Lapua cases on a mandrel in the lathe and many are NOT that uniform. So maybe Lapua brass lasts longer with hi pressures ?

I have found the damage to be more common now that there is no longer a foam sheet as packing

Re: LAPUA 308 BRASS
i pretty much use wini cases exclusively, never had a problem with them.
im running 46gn of 2208 in the omark and 45.8 in the musgrave.
im getting over 20 reloads per case in the omark.[just got the musgrave so havent used the life of a case yet]
others up here are using adi, lap, and some others i cant remember.
some peeps are looking at peterson and ??? i cant remember, itll come to me later....
lappy brass is farmed out,so quality is up the shitz
ps: ive also got rem, fed, adi, nato 308 and NNY [nny rvi Partizan-Namenska Proizvodnja, Titovo, Uzice 31000, Yugoslavia. These are actually Cyrillic letters equal to "PPU in the Western alphabet.]
and i was given another lot on sunday but havent had a look at the headstamp yet.

Another vote here for ADI brass as an alternative. I have used Lapua for the last few years, but at the end of life from the last batch I tried some ADI. Still yet to stand the test of time as they are only on 6 firings, and my Lapua were generally getting up to 20 reloads. Scores are actually up ?? but hats not the brass.
I have not weight sorted the brass either, had to rework my loads as its almost 1gr less 2208 in the ADI brass for the same velocity. My SD is between 5.5 and 7.5 for a 10 shot string - so that's consistent enough.
