Hi All

Thought I had better throw in on this one. I've had a 6.5 Creedmoor for about 9 years now. Had one built off Remington action when it first started in the US and I had to wait to get brass and dies.

Go to powder for 130 to 147 gr bullets is most definitely 2209. There is certainly some work and discussion about RL16 and RL26 on some other forums and I have tried a number of powders including N550, RL 17 and RL 26. I will say that RL26 is getting some excellent velocities but for sheer accuracy and precision the best is 2209.

Happy to discuss anything further on this very good all round cartridge. And yes, to 1000 yards for F Class. It won't actually give up all that much to the big 7's and you'll enjoy a slightly cheaper experience in the long run.

Cheers Andrew

Thanks for the info. I’ll get some 2209 to start with then. Managed to get some Nosler RDF 140s reasonably cheap (bc G1 .658) but need to wait for the rifle to arrive. Went with the Creedmoor as opposed to any other 6.5 as it is a factory rig.
Wanted a versatile caliber with less recoil. Will see how it pans out.

the 6.5 creedmoor was designed for 800, 900, and 1000 yd sling shooting.
it really is the min case capacity to hold enough 2209 (h4350) to drive a 140 type bullet at useable velocities.
using lighter bullets it suits across the course, out to 600 yds, even 107 gn bullets for closer range offhand in this discipline.
published ballistics are often for shorter barrels.
30" barrels can give 140s between 2800 and 2900.
recoil in an fopen rifle is extremely pleasant.
the creedmoor has a larger diameter at the shoulder than the super lr, so although it is shorter, it comes closer in powder capacity the you might think.
the super lr can drive 140s at 2900 using about 43 gns of 2209.
it has wide velocity node at or near safe max also with 2209.
necking up 243 cases allows neck turning if you only have a bushing die.
because you form a new shoulder angle, you can adjust headspace during case forming.
both cartridges will hold good vert when loads are optimized.
considering the 6.5/284 often gave best accuracy at 2850 to 2870, these 2 rounds are not far behind, but with a lot less powder.
my old barrels in 6.5/284 went 800 to 1200 rds.
the super lr barrel has 800 and looks like a 6.5/284 after 200 in fire cracking and erosian.
it also seems less violent to shoot, but that is subjective.
bullets cheaper than larger heavier calibres, less powder, already savings.
super lr using winchester 243 brass another saving.
barrel life another saving.
great rounds for machine gunning, as well as deliberate reading and winding.
keep safe,
bruce.

Thinking of a 260 or 6.5x55 myself mostly as a long range varmint/bit of fun at the range rifle.
For some reason The Creedmoor doesn’t really rouse my interest. Maybe cause I don’t have a problem with longer actions and don’t need to fit them in an ar magazine.

I've got a .260 Rem. on both hunting rifles and a barrel set up for a PRS rifle. On the same PRS rifle I just installed a 6.5CM barrel.

The 6.5CM has a 23" finish length and a 1-6.75 twist.

I've shot Warner Flatline bullets 121gr. solids, 140 Amax box ammo thru it and the new 150SMK's.

The 150's I've loaded to 41.5gr. of H4350. Velocity is an honest 2700fps. and will drive nails. Furthest I've shot it is at 430 yards and the rifle was holding about 1/3 minute. Vertical was even less.

Box Hornady ammo was running .5moa or less and the Warner Flat Lines are shooting right around .5moa but haven’t played with those a lot. Think I can get them to shoot better.

The box Hornady ammo was coming out at 2700fps as well. The Warner bullets where running at 3021fps. I’d have to look at my load
Data but want to say it was 44gr. Of H4350 for the Flat line bullets.

Later, Frank
