When I get some of Ken’s new pills I’ll do some testing and let u know . I hope others can share their experiences with them too! We should support Aussie made !

Ben , 8.5 twist would do it adequately. 9 twist is the least one would go . The Sg calcs ( this is coming from somebody who thinks he knows something!) are made up from a consistent density from base to metplate. However, Open tip match don’t have lead all the way and are hollow about a 1/4 to the tip just with the jacket . So in theory 9 twist might do it fine. It will come down to dynamic stability at lower speeds .?? Can really only do that in testing .

I would give them a go just so didn't have to support the US team.
Are they ready yet?? I'll contact Ken direct.
Geoff

They are on his updated price list, I have emailed Ken waiting for a reply. In a Saum a 9 twist should do fine..

With the goal of conserving both projectiles and barrel life in my 308W FTR and match rifle barrels, for supply and demand mean that even 30 cal projectiles are expensive, unavailable or both depending on what projectile weight you're after, I decided after some deliberation settled on a 223R Tikka re-barrelled with a 32" 1:7 twist barrel chambered to shoot 80- 90gr Berger's. Price and availability of components is good with projectiles $37-$55/100 depending on what and how many you buy and good quality ADI/OSA cases to be had for as little as $33/100. As an added bonus powder charge weight is less although you have to be absolutely spot on with both powder charge and seating depth. It is an absolute pleasure to shoot and while it is true that it tests your wind reading skills to the limit at the longer ranges you could limit it to 600 yards/metres and use other gear for the longer distances, and I have done this myself, although I have also found the 223R more than capable of decent scores in the mid to high 50's at those longer distances using moly coated 90 VLD's in OSA cases.

This what I,m thinking as well. Most OPMs are only short/mid range, so perfect for 223 and 90gn pills. The OSA/ADI cases are pretty tough as well. It would make a good, cheap club gun for 90% of your shooting.

I was thinking along the same lines, or maybe even a 22ppc, since I have a ppc sized action collecting dust.

The 22BR with 90gn pills punches above its weight. When i first started in F class I used a 22BR to win a few queens and scoped quite a lot of 60.9 and 60.10s with it. I still have a slower twist 22BR running 75gn pills and it has always been lovely to shoot.
If you were thinking of building a 22BR, the 80gn Copperheads are $58 per 100 and are available.

I used a 22-250 with 80gn sierras to win my first Queens back in 2001.
33 gns 2209 for about 3200 and damn it was accurate. I have often thought of doing another one for club shoots especially how Lapua do Brass for it now and dies are everywhere..

I once built up a 22 PPC using 80 Grain Sierras. 1 in 8 inch twist. It was deadly accurate at 300y.

For man years John Baxter used a 22-250 over all ranges and did very well with it but it was a serious barrel burner. A 223 run hard with 80 grainers is also a bit hard on barrels.

Personally, I now would leave 22cal alone. I believe 6mm or 6.5 much more sensible. Or 308 for that matter.

BTW, this list of cartridges seems to me a fairly accurate indication of just how hard various cartridges are on barrels.

300 rum, the barrel should last about as long as 50 cases, but geez it would make a 155.5 pointed dyer sing!!!lol

This is a tongue-in-cheek reply

Time we got serious about manufacturing some high quality Aussie projectiles to whoop their butts, should I set up a go fund me page and make it happen?

Copperhead Projectiles now make a good 184gn 7mm in Australia . They also make some heavy 308 pills, has anyone tried these? If they are like his other projectiles, they will be very uniform and accurate. I already use his 224, 6mm and 6.5mm pills and will certainly try his new 184s

Rod,

As far as I am aware, his heaviest 30 cal is a 168gr. The 175gr, 190gr and 208gr VLD are still coming. Ive got my name down for some 208gr VLD for F/TR

I already use Aussie brass (Bertram) brass so am interested to see how Ken's projectiles would go in a 284. Pretty good I would reckon.

Hi All, I spoke with Ken from Copperhead bullets the other day, the 7mm 184's are not in production yet as he is waiting on jacket material but should receive it any day now. He said that the bullets will suit the current 8 & 8.5 T barrels as the bullets will be similar to the Sierras and the new Bergers. So a few more sleeps and supply will be restored with Aussie made bullets.
