Ally experiment

#1 Postby mick6220 » Wed Oct 09, 2019 5:02 pm

Just finished an ally stock for my Remington 700 .308. Bipod is temporary until I can afford a proper rest. Now I just have to see if it shoots ok :?

Hi L@@KS great . What do you think the stock weight would be ? And your time to get this far ? Keep up the great work.

The stock itself is only around the 3kg Mark at a guess and it was about 30hrs work. It has 40ish mm ally bedding blocks milled (roughly) to suit action, and then devcon bedded as well. It's only made out of 50x50shs 80x10flat 44mm tube, 25mm on the bag rider and 50mm round bar for the bedding blocks. I'll weigh the complete rifle when it's beerO'clock.

Well the complete unit only weighs 6.8kg so maybe I can add some ballast. May I ask what the max weight is for fclass?

FTR is 8.25kg, so you are under. That said your stock is rather heavy, looking at the pic there are lots of places you could lighten it up, then you can add weight with sope, better bipod and heavier barrel.

Yes I had always planned on getting a better barrel but I'll half wear this one out first, it's only had around 130 rounds through it and I got it in 2012. I was planning on doing f std and getting a Caldwell rest or something similar that's why I went for the 3inch forend and kept a bit of weight there to reduce muzzle flip. But I'm a newbie to the sport really and I really appreciate all the help from the people on here.
