Looking for feedback

#1 Postby Jase PTRC » Tue Dec 12, 2017 6:16 am

Hi, im looking for feedback on a potential OPM format that would see shooters travel to Lower Light.

What im proposing is to have a 2 day event all long range,

Day 1 would be on a Saturday and may consist of 2 to a mound bisley style shooting. 2 sighters and 15 to count double 800mtrs in the morning and 900mtrs in the afternoon.

Day 2 would consist of normal string shooting 2 sighters and 20 to count double 900mtrs

All to be shot on manual targets, set to be in the cooler months probably in July or August.

Let me know what you think. Regards

Dependent on all the normal stuff that get in the way of shooting, I'll be there !

Great initiative.

Sounds good!
112 rounds plus foulers can be carried by air no problem.
I have travelled to SA a couple of times by air and had the heavy(not go bang) stuff couriered there a week or so prior which was around $50 each way from Newcastle.
Fly in Friday and stay in 2 Wells or the range would be a great weekend away.
I'm keen.

Jase,

Sounds good. One thing to consider might be to change to 20 shots for Bisley, and 15 shots for string? 20 shot shoots are not kind to barrels, but Bisley style may slow things down somewhat.

Due to travel being 1 day each way, I'd probably not attend for a 2 day shoot.

However, if you tacked it on to the Queens, then I'd be happy to stay for another 2 days of shooting Bisley style!!!

I would say you would have more interstate shooters if you did that.

You may use it as a precursor for other states doing a similar thing, as a way of bringing Bisley style to our events.

Good work, lets hope it gets off the ground!

Pretty sure flying would be out for me so I would have to drive too so I'd be much more likely to attend if like Mike said it was tacked onto the Queen's. Maybe in a similar way to the F Class teams were included this year. Great initiative and definitely an event I would like to attend.

Lower Light is not very kind with wind l would drop the 900 and change to 600 or 700.

Trev,

Some of us have been agitating for years to have the 900 included in the Queens. Along with including Bisley style, having 900 would be the major attraction I believe.

There's plenty of prize meets for the shorter distances.
Be good to see a comp for the longs as the international ones are.
If the wind is not very kind at least it will be a real test(see how I'm talking after the comp) #-o

In winter time the range is quite readable as it is during the queens in May.

Alan,
Is there any solid documentation to support the belief that twenty shot strings are measurably more damaging than fifteen shot strings, thinking that very few F Open shooters would have ever shot a twenty shot string in Australia?
I support at least one twenty shot match in a competition, though would prefer more.Twenty shot matches may be hard on rifle barrels, but they are a lot harder on the competitors,I think it is good to put the pressure on the shooters,a long string of shots tests endurance, physical and mental capacity.

This is the sort of match we need more of, but as other mentioned, I would prefer the 20 shot matches to be Bisley style. I have temperature stickers on a lot of my barrels and I cant quantify the extra throat erosion accurately, but I do know the heat certainly has time to migrate out to the stickers going buy the readings.
Like Tim said, making competitions attractive to air travel (ie, 5kg ammo, all long range, so one gun) will make it more convenient for people to fly in, shoot and fly out from around the country. Like Tim, I have flown to shoot interstate a few times now and intend to do the same at the S.A Queens this year, so yes, count me in, I would travel to it.
I would prefer it to be a stand along event, separate from the Queens. After 5 days of a Queens comp, most will be all shot out and needing a break.
