WA Queens
Righto sandgropers, if you havent already make sure you get your entries in by TOMORROW 11th Sept as WARA will be closing them off. This year will be shot at Albany from 300-800m. After missing last year, Im keen to burn some powder up. Wont be shooting the full lead up due to work commitments but hopefully we can get all 3 f class disciplines up and running numbers wise.

Re: WA Queens
Well done to the northwest DRA of Gary Filgate (coach) Paul Watkins (captain) and Ashley Norwood, Graham Purdy, Bruce Piper and Larry Lipple (shooters) for winning the DRA teams shoot in FS. No FO or FTR competition due to lack of numbers Im guessing. Also congrats to the Esperance Rifle Club for winning the Ray Miles Team shoot in FS, captained and coached by Ray Hurley with Mike Henley, Aaron Parker, Adrian Moffat and Martin Viviers shooting.
Today the Duke of Edinburgh leadup starts and hopefully will be able to find some results. There is no live streaming this year due to internet connection issues according to the WARA website. I leave for Albany early tomorrow for a 1pm start of the Queens and will update between breaks for the FO shooters- which I think we have 8 or so of us competing.

Re: WA Queens
Greetings from sunny Albany where it's actually cold and wet.
In the Duke of Edinburgh the FS winners were Graham Oates 348.29, B Hallam 346.29, T Whittemore 343.22, D Blechynden 340.20 and A Norwood 340.17. In FO it was Brett Bunyan 349.25, L Lipple 345.19 and D Ogle 341.17. And in F/TR Aaron Parker 336.14 D Bliss 336.11 and P Sproule 329.15.
The start of the queens was delayed for 15 minutes due to rain but once underway Brett Bunyan continued where he left off winning the range with 60.7 over Shaun stoffels 60.4. Conditions were blustery with fast pickups and drop offs and the other 6 shooters all dropped between 1 and 5 points.
At 400m I managed to dust away cobwebs from the last 12 months to win the range with a 60.7 over Stoffels and Bunyan respectively. Both of them finished the day clean Brett taking the agg with more X's. I'm sitting third by X's over B Piper and the rest are all a few points back.
In Open calibers used are
B. Bunyan 260ai
S. Stoffels 7-08ai
B. Yates 6br
R. Hurley 7wsm
D. Ogle 260ai
L. Lipple 6.5 creedmore/ 284 shehane
B. Kinnear 260ai/ 7saum
I'm doing reports on an iPhone so sorry for any mistakes, will report more at lunch tomorrow. Te forecast does not look favourable for shooting so it will be an interesting day.

Re: WA Queens
Getting lots on my dslr but they are all in raw format and I need to play with them on a computer to be able to upload them.
Cold windy and more than likely wet again, just about to start the briefing for the day.

At first 500
Lipple clean
Bunyan and stoffels down 2
Myself down 3
Hurley down 2
Ogle down 2
Kinnear down 4
Clouds clearing but the wind is still causing problems from 7 to 9 people losing shots sideways and down. Great fun though and the atmosphere in the whole shoot feels good.

Re: WA Queens
Getting really rough now. The guys shooting big calibers are starting to shine. At lunch Bunyan has switched to a 7mm too.
Second 500
Bunyan down 3
Stoffels down 1
Lipple with his 284 clean again
Hurley a great 60.8 with 7mm
Kinnear down 9
Myself 58.0 trying everything to get an x but no joy.

Re: WA Queens
After a rough day with the little gun I'm definitely up for a cold beer and feed of ribs. Before I do I will give a quick rundown of the day which saw L Lipple and his 284 take the daily agg from Ray Hurley and Shaun stoffels. All 3 are shooting 7mm's and it's not hard to see the bigger guns won the day in the rough. However it still Shaun in the lead with a hot shooting 7-08ai that he has piloted well. Two 800m ranges in the morning and we will see what the leaderboard looks like once they are done at lunch.
Beer and ribs time!

Good luck to everyone. I hope the weather co-operates and all goes smoothly.
So, what can you tell us about Albury range? First time it has held a Queens, how are conditions there?

Re: WA Queens
First time for me too rod.
Two galleries a and b and each gallery has 10 targets. A gallery is protected by a hill from anything comin from the left and is quite readable. B gallery is a bit harder as wind comes over the hill and it seems a lot more turbulent. Plus with the bit of tail wind the little cals seem to come unglued pretty easy. It blew from 7 o'clock pretty much all day and was too cloudy to see mirage. When the sun came out at 700 you could follow it on drop offs but when it ran it was just a blur. 600m after lunch was very rough a miss or two recorded and some shots into the white. Scores are there to be had if you and your gear are up to it. The kongsbergs so far are behaving fairly well with one or two taken out of service due to gremlins. They have seen a lot of shots over the week. The mounds have a bit of angle to them and while some are a little spongy, it's much better than shooting on sand dunes at Swanbourne in my opinion. The Albany club are running it very well. When I get back and do the photos you will see a bit more of the range and such.

Re: WA Queens
Congrats to Shaun Stoffels on his first queens win, his gun has been amazing and his shooting all weekend has been nearly flawless. Bunyan finished second with Hurley third I believe. I finished the day on a poor note dropping 10 after pilot error with the scope. In FS it was Hallam over D cole. Not sure on f/tr but results will be online soon no doubt.
Thanks to Albany rifle club ft running a great event.

Re: WA Queens
Cheers mate. It was a good weekend with good competition and interesting conditions
Alot of the credit goes to Brett Bunyan, he has helped me tremendosly over the last 2 years and taught me a hell of alot. The other F-Open guys in WA are all awesome. Everyone is willing to help everyone else out. Its awesome to shoot with so many great guys. Anyone of them could have won this weekend.
Go the 7mm08AI!!!!!!!!
