History behind the range red and yellow flags?

#1 Postby Tim N » Thu Apr 25, 2024 8:47 pm

Hi All,
Does anyone know the origin of the range flags?
At an Anzac Day service conducted by a surf club they said the red and yellow goes back to WW1 as a sign of friendship etc these are also the surf flag colours
Maybe no connection
Just interested in knowing
Thanks

Doesn’t appear to be anyone who knows which is unusual.
All that I know is that the Artillery flags always showed red on top of their identification flags/plates.
I was also told the the red represents blood and the yellow the sand. Possibly a connection to Gallipoli?
But, this may have been just an easy way to teach newbies which way to fly the flag. :?:
