Careful when buying
Please be careful when buying firearms, I recently bought a firearm interstate off here in which I was told excellent condition, was definitely not the case when I received it. So make sure you get plenty of information and photos.
Re: Careful when buying
I asked for pictures about the condition of the rifle, he sent me photos of 3 chips in the paint which I was fine with, I opened up the rifle after it had been delivered and there were at least another 8 decent chips in the paint, plus one missing screw out of the trigger guard which he first blamed on the dealer who sent it. He tried to blame the other paint chips on the delivery service but they were already touched up. Would you class as excellent condition? I wouldn't

Sorry to hear that Tim. With sites such as Ebay and Gumtree members are rated but our forum software doesn't provide that feature. What I would suggest as an alternative is for everyone (both buyers and sellers) to give feedback on how their dealings went. Do it as a reply to the post in question. No problem with mentioning Login names as long as everything is kept factual. Hopefully there will be much more positive reports than negative, and people can use that information to decide who they want to deal with. This approach will hopefully reduce the number of situations like yours Tim. Currently old posts in the For Sale/WTB forum are deleted after a period. I can leave them there much longer if this approach succeeds. Does anyone else have comments on this idea?
Re: Careful when buying
It's pretty sad when you pay $5500 for a rifle and you receive it to find faults that were not mentioned and then to lie about it
Re: Careful when buying
I asked him for a decent refund so I could have the stock repaired and repainted because i want to keep the rifle but he pretty much named a price which is well below the cost to fix and wouldn't really budge so I didn't have a choice really, it's just a shame he was not upfront from the start
Re: Careful when buying
It is a quality gun I believe, Bat m action, Krieger barell and a ken noye stock. How do I attach photos?

Re: Careful when buying
Hey mate. I know the rifle in question and I can guarentee you it wasnt like that when it was sent. It was in excellent condition. You didnt pay brand new price for the rifle, you bought 2nd hand. I paid 6k for a 2nd hand rifle and it had some chips in the clearcoat, it doesnt effect the way the rifle shoots however. Competition rifles do get chips from use, etc. If you wanted a brand new rifle, then pay for a brand new rifle. The paint job alone on that rifle when new cost 1500 plus to get done. 5500 is way less then cost of brand new rifle when using the components that build has.
I think your expectations where a bit high in this situation. You will be had pressed to find a better setup then you bought. The only weakpoint will be you as the shooter.

Re: Careful when buying
The chips had been touched up mate so they were there, my argument was that he tried to lie about the other chips, feel free to call me if you want to know more
Re: Careful when buying
Looks like the stock was bedded for a different action so it's a very 2nd + hand stock. Hopefully the barrelled action is better. It should still shoot ok. Ken will make another stock and have it bedded for a reasonable price if it's just the looks you are worried about, then you have what you want.
