G'day folks, I have joined your forum after recomendations from other users on other forums. I have been shooting for 30 odd years and started reloading about 8 years ago. I joined the SSAA about 5 years ago and have enjoyed competing at a club level. Recently I have been having a shot out to 300 mtrs and have a desire to go further.
I am having a 1:9 twist barrel fitted to my .223 and a few other mods, so that I can give the f-class comps a go. I live about 40 minutes from Lockhart and about an hour from Junee, so could anyone direct me to a calander of events for those two ranges please.
Looking forward to learning and shooting.

Knackers, can you change the barrel order for an 8" twist barrel. With the 9" you can only shoot 69gn bullets which are a long way behind the 80gn bullets you can use in the 8" twist. The 69gn pills will only get you out to about 700 yds, while the 80s will let you shoot out to 1000.
You will have fun in F class. Much more fun shooting at 300-1000yds than shooting group after group at rock throwing distance.(100yds)

Thanks for the repies fella's.
The reason that I'm going for the 1:9 is that I have been offered it for $200, its only fired about 300 rounds and is only a factory CZ varmit barrel.
The second child arrived six months ago and the hobby funds are drying up fast. I was aware that the 1:9 wouldn't drive the 80's well and resigned myself that I would have to only use the 69er's and that I may not beable to compete out past 700?. It is a far cry from the 1:12 that I use presently.
As I said it will be an entry level rifle and depending on how much time, how dear fuel gets, and if I'm any good, I have a Rem 700 action to build something on if the whole F-class thing really blows my hair back.

Sounds good, shooting out to 700yds sure beats plinking at 100yds. F class doesnt have to be a wealth hazard.
Wealthy I'm not, but happy all the same.
I have noticed a lot of f-class shooters refer to 100 and 200 mtrs as plinking. I must admit that I have tunned all my rifles and have got most shooting around .300/.350 @ 100, and it seems that if I want to shave another hundred thou off a group I will have too spent another grand to get there, and I'm very keen but not that keen.
So I've decided that instead of smaller groups I will chase further groups with what I have
