Interested in the opinions of shooters in regard to what they consider to be the preferred option for wind & elevation movements on the rear sight.
For years I have used a Central rear sight that is thirds on wind & elevation.
My Dad used a McRorie that was quarters on wind & elevation
I have recently purchased a T Mac that is quarters on the elevation & halves on wind
I recently spoke to a former state shooter who said when he was in the team it was a requirement to have rear sights with quarters for elevation & halves on the wind.
I am quite happy with what I am using and each sight is kept separately so I dont get them mixed up.
Any thoughts would be appreciated.
Thanks Brad Probert

I like the 1/4 - 1/4 myself. That way I've got the option of small movements if I feel so inclined.

Re: TR Sights - Quarter Third or Half Click Preference
I am pretty sure that you can convert the McRorie and T Mac's to either 1/2's or 1/4's on both the windarm and elevation arm. You can see that the knobs are in two halves. Each knob can be separated and you will find that the halves have different indentations on them. So it is only a matter of reassembling the halves with the preferable one against the ball bearing to give you either 1/2 or 1/4 minute movement per click. Be aware of backlash once reassembled, it may take a bit of adjustment to get rid of the backlash.

Re: TR Sights - Quarter Third or Half Click Preference
I grew up with 1/2 and 1/2 rear sights for years and years.
Trying to coach someone with 1/3s on their sight was a mental nightmare to me. My brain simply could never think in thirds.
While I know that 1/2 on the wind makes some sense for various types of peep sight shooting, especially in some windy locations, I don't believe it is good enough these days for a general sight. After all, a top TR shooter can aim to about 1/8 of a minute with a peep sight. The eye is an amazing thing.

Thanks for the replies. I probably should change my Central sight over to 1/4s . I havent seen many sights that are 1/3s . There was a bloke on here last year that had a box of sight parts for sale which included windage & elevation wheels in 1/4s, I will try to find him in the archives.
I gather that sights that used 1/3s werent overly popular or common .

I got one from dgeorge52. He will look after you. You'll find a few post reguarding this in the target rifle section.

I believe 1/3rds were brought in to 'metricize' the Central sight, 1 MoA at 100m is around 29mm so 1/3rd was seen as near enough to 10mm. That would make it 30mm at 300m, 40mm at 400m etc. Having used a 1/3rds sight many years ago I just guesstimated 6 clicks from one side of the bull to the other, worked out near enough for me.

Are you interested in selling your 1/3 sight or swapping for Tmac 1/4 ?

Hi Phil, I have decided to keep my 1/3 sights. You would probably be able to find a set on this forum , someone would have them stashed away.
