Wilson Die Question

#1 Postby superx10 » Wed May 22, 2024 11:50 am

Hi am full length sizing some 6.5 Peterson Brass after mandriling up from 6.5 to 7mm with a .309 bush i am using a foster press and a wilson die and my brass overall length is 2.155 in .284 W
however only about 2mm of the brass is touching the bush and the die is bottoming out, any help appreciated .

Your bush is floating, you need to tighten down the top nut, but not so it locks up. Just back it off 1/2 a turn or so

It can only be a poorly made bush or your brass is undersize

Has the Wilson die been used successfully with other brass? If not, is it a factory die or one made with a die blank and reamer. If the latter, then maybe the reamer needs to go deeper? (or the die base shortened, or both).

Hi Thanks for your help but I have just worked out the problem .......I hade removed the decapping pin and found out the black knurled nut not only holds the decapping pin in but also pushed the bushing into its final position.'......user error and no one to blame hahha
