260 rem or 7-08 for F-Open
I might be picking up a cheap omark that has a pretty old barrel on it and am thinking of rechambering it in either 260 rem or 7-08

Steven,
Both of the rounds have better balistics than a 308 past 500m. The downside of the 260 & 7-08 is you are not shooting against the 223/308's but all of the other higher power 6, 6.5 & 7mm's all of which can launch the same projies faster and flatter. The ones that come to mind are the 6.5-284, 284, 280 & 7mm (RW, SWM, etc).
Having said that, i have almost finished a heavy barreled 260 and plan to use it when its completed, until then its a 308 for me. I am not in it to win, just to have fun and improve my long range shooting skills. THis may hang in the future but until then i plan to shoot all of my rifles regulary.
