80 grain Noslers. Jump or Jam ?

#1 Postby Wakey7 » Tue Mar 26, 2013 9:51 pm

Have some 80 grain Nolsers in 22 cal to load and was wondering whether they like to Jump or be Jammed ??? (Rifle is a Barnard action with a 1:8 Kreiger barrel). Cheers Wakey.

Hi Wakey

I have a barnard with a 1:8 twist exactly the same as yours.
Fantastic rifle and shoots about 1/4 inch to 1/3 inch really well.

Jam about 5th is what I find the best but remember each rifle has its own preference.

I have also heard some other people with a 20 to 30 thou jump was great but apparently this is not good for the throat of the chamber.
I am no gunsmith so do not take this as gospel but just regurgitating what I have heard

Pete

Thanks Pete. Talked to a guy at Country Teams the other week and he was very happy with Noslers but I failed to ask him how he was seating them. May have to do a little R & D myself. Regards Wakey.

G'Day All,
I've had great success in tuning rifles for FO (.223/22BR/6x47lapua) and 100/200 benchrest (6ppc) and having tested jump & jam, I find jam to be the most consistent with many different barrels and chambers.
They all shoot much better than the driver using them! Heck even been beaten by people using my own rifles in the same event
Usually 10-15 thou with 2 thou neck tension - using a resize bushing 2 thou smaller than loaded round neck diameter, all cases are neck turned for 100% clean up.
Cheerio Ned

Thanks for your input Ned. Sounds like I should jam them. Will probably jump a few just to compare. Regards Wakey.
