I read here a few reckon the idea of a softer fireforming load for 284W to 284S to reduce primer pocket loosening is a good idea.
I have some sierra 168's here and 2213sc to use- what sort of load is recommended? I was thinking around 54-55gr.
Thanks

Brad , I have always used Winchester Large rifle primers to fireform as they are the smallest of all the LRP"s and will keep the pockets tight . I then use BR2 from then on with full power load once formed!!!
I get the feeling you are trying to sneak into the Queens with your new 284 eh!!

if you want to reduce primer pocket loosening, you have to harden the brass.
the only way you can harden brass is to move it.
this means that you need enough pressure to move the case head a little bit, but not enough to do harm.
period.
keep safe,

Bruce - Another theory I have heard is to create case wall grip. The first firing supposedly has less case wall grip due to the large gap between case and chamber. I am not sure about this but suppose it is feasible. If so I think it would not be so much about "less case wall grip" but perhaps that it is thrust further back before contacting the wall in the early part of the process.
