MCSI review of scores

#1 Postby Ken L » Sun Oct 15, 2006 2:00 pm

Comparison of scores at Grafton 300 yds between FB, FS & FO using the MSCI lookup table for each stage and the totaling the 2 stage scores.
Now from this I believe that there is a perception problem in that what I consider to be the accepted practice in Fullbore shooting, for example that a 50.0 is better score than a 49.9 and that makes the MCSI tables unacceptable to the majority of Fullbore shooters while this practice is still evident amoung club members.
Once this practice is consigned to the WPB of time and shooting for V Bulls is the norm then the MCSI with a few anomalies corrected is viable.

I have included a column of % of accepted possible score. For FB that is 100 for a 20 shot match, for FS 120 and for FO on FB targets 120
Shooter.......Class..............Score..........MSCI.......% of a Possible score
1..................FS.................113.............186...........94%
2..................FB.................97.06..........183.6........97%
3..................FB.................94.08..........182.6........94%
4..................FB.................96.06..........182.6........96%
5..................FS.................109.............181.5.......90.8%
6..................FO.................110.............176.6.......91.7%
7..................FB.................90.03..........174.2.......90%
8..................FS..................101............173.2.......84.2%
9..................FS..................101............172.9......84.2%
10................FS..................96..............165.7........80%
11................FB..................84.02..........1649.......84%
12................FB..................76..............148.8........76%
13................FB..................58..............113.9........58%

Hi Ken,
Cannot give you scores from yesterday as I don't have cards, but I can give you some direct comparisons of 5 shooters who fired 20 shots at 600yd on a c/ship target fixed over a FB target.
Shooter. C/ship MCSI F Std MCSI
Target

1 196 190.8 119 191.0

2 193 188.6 116 187.5

3 190 186.3 116 187.5

4 188 184.9 116 187.5

5 183 180.3 107 177.4
I will let you draw your own conclusions.
As Allan said, the system is not perfect, no system is, but with a few more figures which are " actual " results as these are, I have no doubt the MCSI could be made to calculate closer. Actually it's not that far away
now.
Where this system would not work is where there is mixture of A B and C grade TR shooters, and I am talking about team shooting now.If shooters in all categories were still graded, it should work OK.
One other problem that makes it not so correct is that 9's on a C/ship target can be 6's or 5's on a FS target. If the 9 ring on a C/ship target was the same diameter as the 6 ring on a FS target the results would be more meaningful. However that is not the case so some compromise has to be tolerated.
This is evident in the example above where there are 5 points between shooters 2, 3 and 4 when shot on the FO target, but the " actual" FS scores were equal which results in equivalent MCSI when applied to the FS scores.
Barry
