308 and 2209
If this topic has been covered I apologise but couldn’t find on. Has anyone used 2209 with 200 grain pills for F/TR

I haven’t,but I have used plenty of it with 208 grain projectiles when shooting Match Rifle.

You can't get enough 2209 in a 308 case with a 200gr pill to run into pressure signs. I tried early on using 09 with a 210jlk, but couldn't get the speed without compressing the load and then ran into ES/SD problems. It's beautiful and soft to shoot, but ultimately I found better consistency and accuracy using 08. What 200gr pill are you using? If you got a fast batch of 09, long throated the gun and seated the pill for powder space might be worth a crack, but you'd limit your options with regards to projectiles. Lots of match rifle shooters use it with good results using Winchester brass and moly coating pills. If this is your first foray into FTR, I'd recommend 200.20x or hybrids and 2208 with Palma cases as a starting point.

Thanks yeah I know of multiple match shooters using it with 208’s and remember an article years ago about using 09 in the 303 to have a long slow pressure curve with 174’s . That is what I would have thought would be happening in this case. I am getting a large number of 200 grain jacks with the rifle as that was what the previous owner was using with 2209 and I put this post up befor I knew that.

I've not used jacks before, but they are a fairly long bullet from memory. If they are coming with the rifle in a package deal, he should have load data to go with it, which will give you a base to work from.

Yes, I ran 2209 behind 200s for the 2017 Worlds. In fact I ran the load for the 4.5 year life of the barrel.
At the Cannon Hill training session my ES was a low single digit over however many rounds we fired (like 3 or 4 fps)
There was a lot of FUD flying around but that barrel shot that mix to a World Class standard.
But, it was a fk around.
I had a 300 thou freebore
Had to use a 1m drop tube and still had a compressed load, compressed like you won't be seating with an arbour press.
Needs to look a bit like this or you probably did it wrong.

Re: 308 and 2209
We’ll have settled on 48 grns of 09 for an average velocity of 2670. Pretty happy with that so far. Got 2700fps from 48.6 but group was a bit bigger
