PM Computer Program???

The unthankfull task of collating all the scores of a PM will in many cases tie up a club member and either detract from their performance as a shooter or cause them not to shoot at all for said Meeting.

I have seen methods where results are recorded on large pieces of paper/card and simple spreadsheets and data bases and none seem to make life much easier.

I am sure that someone has felt the same as myself on this matter in some time past that actually did something about it. Hopefully by asking I will prevent myself having to re-invent the wheel so to speak.

I am interested in looking at any/all systems others have developed if they would care to share them with me.
A spot for averages, names, club, ranges and maybe even hcp would be awesome but additional things like automatic countback ability, sweepstake calculator.

A program like such would allow for user friendliness that could even be shared resulting in freeing up a member to do what they like best.

Either post links or PM me with either programs, ideas or whatever and if it looks like people think the wheel still needs development I/we may be able to contribute.

A guy at Subiaco was showing me something like that, written in excel, to collate scores and handicaps etc. What was his name.....pretty sure it was Graham Gribble.

And to think he was at our shoot on the weekend and I even had a few scotches with him.

Will track him down at his 97th Queens PM at Swanbourne.

Excel is the way to go
Maybe if there any excel wizzs out there create a template and share it with others.

I will have a go at excel next week if I get time but I was thinking more of a script written program...beggars can't be choosers though.

There is a scripted software going around over on the east coast.
I think it is Col Garven who has writen it and most of the Major prize meetings and queens have been using it.

Contact NRAA I am pretty sure they used it at the Nationals.

I do the stats at our OPM and have refined a spreadsheet over the last 5 years to the stage where a single button press prints all the trophy lists at the end each day. It includes countback and all tie breaking rules.

The problem is that its configured for our OPM format only, including team and miscellaneous events unlikely to used elsewhere. If I get the time, I will try to make it bullet-proof and configurable. If anyone wants a copy of it to see how things are done, then I am happy to provide, but you will need a good knowledge of Excel including VB for Apps to make sense of it.

My personal opinion is that if in doubt, do the stats manually. The shooters prefer to see an up-to-date results board rather than wait for print-outs. At our OPM, we still have a manual scoreboard which gets priority over the computer. The main advantages of the computer are (a) it is much quicker at the end of the day when the pressure is on for trophy lists (b) it is well suited for distributing results via E-mail (c) it is good check against errors on the board. However in our case, it probably doesn't reduce the time burden for the stats officer (me). I can shoot and do the stats, but I don't get to see much of the other competitors, and don't do my share of scoring.
