Nightforce competion preferred reticles

Post by Nathan P »

I'm looking at buying a new nightfoce competion to replace my sightron
But I'm undicided on what type of reticle to get, I'm interisted in the FCR-1 but I don't know if it will be to cluttered or not? Has anyone used or looked through one?
Cheers

I've got the CTR 2 and really like it. The DDR 2 would be my next choice. The fcr is now discontinued so hopefully you can find one of that's what you want

I like the NP-R2 reticle because it has some reference marks but isn't overly cluttered but I don't think that is avaliable in the competition and may have also been dropped from other models :-((((

Some prefer a dot and others prefer a fine cross . . . Some cope well with a lot of clutter and others like it simple so make sure you get a good look through one before laying out your money.

The FCR-1 is the best of the limited choice available.
The stadia are still too fine and I actually find it distracting concentrating on seeing the crosshair when conditions are not ideal.
As far as I am aware the FCR-1 has NOT been discontinued! I am a NF stockist.
It just has been out of stock due to nearly all orders being for this reticle.
The silver version was discontinued when the Gen II scopes were introduced last year.
At 40X the FCR-1 reticle has 1moa hashes however the 1 moa hashes are not full hashes.
They merely have a small vertical hash below the horizontal line.
The 2;4 etc hashes have a proper longer hash both above and below the horizontal line.
Ideally all the hashes should be the same as these and thicker to be able to see them easier in bad mirage.

Hi Nathan

I am in a similar position ie about to buy a NF competition I have two others a NXS 22* and the 42 * bench rest truly the best value for money for rifle scopes MUP. The reticle choice is limited too just four I think, plain cross hair ,cross hair with dot ,FCR-1 hashed cross hair and DDR .2 a dot with with lines either sides and lower hash marks.

The Fcr.1 lines do not appers black more grey I have been in contact with Light force in SA to confirm, this would give my eyes trouble in bad conditions ie most of the summer months. For me this leaves the DDR 2 it is similar to the old NP.2DD om my bench rest model only the dot is finer like the bottom one on the NP.2DD I love the dot reticle.you have reference points to work out hold with the other marks .

Magnum sports in Sydney and QGE in Brisbane are the most competive with pricing /.There are no DDR.2 in the country at the moment but an happy to Lay buy and weight so as not such a big financial hit .

For me I like 2moa spacing on extra hash marks. Close enough to easily divide in 1/2 or 1/4 but no too cluttered. The npr2 has 2moa on the horizontal and 5moa for the vertical when at 22x.

Anyone heard what it's worth to have a custom reticle made?

You would pay really good money to have a custom reticle that is better than Martys.

I know Alan doesn't want us pushing a personal retail agenda here as there are early supporters of the website etc.
I just will try a small one though - we are NF stockist and I match QGE pricing.
Magnum were advertising cheap NXS recently which were a discontinued quit line from NF.
There was only one reticle involved although someone cut and pasted the advert i would guess as all were listed.
PM me if you would like a quote or availability?

FYI

I queried NF regards the FCR-1 deletion.
It is definitely staying in their line up for the Comp II.
The mention of deleting same placed on their website was in error.

I have made my personal opinion known to them regards improvements for same.

Reticles are a bit like barrel cleaning - everyone has their own favorite. So its a good sales strategy to have plenty of choices. Fortunately the Comp II had the exact one I wanted which is a plain cross-hair. And quite apart from pricing I can recommend Shane for his standard of service "above and beyond".

I have the DDR2 in mine and love it. Uncluttered and precise.
