powder weight variance

Post by scott/r »

What variance are you guys deeming as acceptable. At the moment my scales have a + - .2 of grain of fluctuation. Zeroing the weight of the pan on my Lyman scales and then removing the pan gives me -118.0 grn. Then when I'm reloading it will fluctuate between - 117.9 and - 118.1 grns. In my head this is not good enough, but am I being to anal about it. I'm loading for a 308 shooting target rifle. And before you f class boys start on about only needing a 2moa gun and load, I am still chasing a sub 1/2 moa gun/load to compensate for my abilities haha.

My scales read +/- 0.02gr. It changes with each kernel of 2208 and 2209. I make sure the loads are exact. You think your anal now?

A&D lab scales. Google them and you will find some Aussie web stores that sell them.

Thanks, I just found the thread on these a couple of pages back. I gather they are still living up to their reputation?

Hi Scott

I run a GEMpro 250. 0.02 gr increments. Some minor scale drift but if you watch it there isn't really an issue.

I feel that if you can take a variable out of your set up then why not.

Cheers

.2 gr variation in load will give approx 20 fps velocity spread with 06H and 155 gr pills in my experience.
Run a program on what that ES will give you in vertical at 1000 yds?
Some of the top end TR guys are very close to what the best F Class reloaders are doing.
They have actions; barrels and stocks capable of .250 Moa so why not have an edge?
