284 ammo weight
To those that have done it before- what would be the weight of 100x 284/284 shehane rounds with 180gr pills in an MTM ammo box? Im sure someone would have the figure. Trying to work out if Im going to have to take loading gear to the national queens or if 120+ loaded rounds is ok to carry on the plane.

Doubtless someone will have the answer you REALLY want but in the interim you can get 180 .308s with 210gr proj and 50gr of powder into the 5kg so I reckon you'll romp it in. Strictly speaking the weight of the box doesn't matter as it's 5kg of AMMUNITION you're allowed. Best not to press your luck though.

I did the calculation prior to FCWC 2013 using 7 Shehane, 60gn powder, 180gn projectile, MTM boxes.
You'll get 150 loaded rounds easily (under 5Kg) using 3 MTM H-50 boxes. The exact maximum number varies depending on the powder charge and what boxes (50 or 100 capacity) used.

Thanks Alan- exactly what I was after and I knew someone did the calcs on it. Now I dont have to worry about taking additional gear to Belmont.

Brad , You will also need a Rain coat , some Banana's for the locals and a couple of bottles of Scotch to get Rod Davies drunk every night

Perhaps the NRAA could issue a sort of showbag with those items in it...-

Brad, .284 Shehane rounds are too heavy to travel with. You'll have to leave it at home and use the 6BR. Have you got a .223, probably safer option again.

Denis- I might just do that. The 6BR is shooting really well with that trail boss load you encouraged me to try. I just dont know how well it holds up in the longs...
