Hi John. The Hawkeye gives the best image of the different types of scopes available as far as I'm concerned. The 17 inch shooting edition with angled eyepiece would be a welcome sight under any Christmas tree. Look it up on the Gradient Lens website, I think the number is HS17-SHOT-AEP. Not sure if there is an Australian distributor, I got mine through Bruno's Shooter supplies several years ago. A worthwhile addition is getting an L.E.D.upgrade for the maglight which gives a much brighter image. Regards Malcolm.

Yes a hawkeye is by far the best and at about $1900 it should be. I have a 1st generation Lyman boredom for sale in excellent condition for $250 + postage or pick up in the sydney area

There are other very high quality 'borescopes'. Not that I am knocking the Hawkeye.

Do some eBay searches bases on 'Rigid Endoscopes'. There are other names. Many from China and are of very good quality. These are all aimed at the medical field. Most are actually autoclaveable. I have never looked at one that uses a tiny camera that matches one using relay lenses and that is what most searches based on 'Borescopes' will turn up.

You can get ones with different tip angles. Best is a 90 degree probe although a 70 degree one is usable although not as nice for barrels. Few have a 90 degree eyepiece which is almost a necessity when looking up the breech end of a barrel attached to an action in a stock. I eventually made a 90 degree eyepiece.

300mm is long enough to do most all you want used from both ends of a barrel. It depends on your pocket.

Peter Setford sells a top quality borescope, I’ve also used a Hawkeye.

Peters borescope comes with a bright white LED bulb which is very clear when using ( a good light frequency)

You can find Peters contact details on James Corbett’s website (triplejimports).

Peter Setford is also one of us, a shooter, you’ll see him at most of the queens comps and he’s a nice guy to boot,,,,, for a Victorian :)

Teslong bore scope seems to be good value for a camera style and getting some decent reviews, in comparison to the lyman camera. Will probably never compete with an optical scope.
