Gday Barry,

Welcome to the sport!

I would start around 45gns and work up looking for the usual pressure signs. I'm not familiar with the throating of that rifle so bullet seating options may be limited.

Win brass has a greater capacity than Lapua so u may end up with something around 46-46.5...however I caution again...watch for the pressure signs.

45.5 or above should be fine out to 1K in a 26" tube. I have a mate with a custom rem with a 25.75" barrel that uses 45.5 to 1K no problem.

Let us know how u go.

Hello :D simon,on sunday i shot my savage 308 at 300 yard practice shoot,i used 45.6 of ar2208 at 72.5mm o.a.l for sighting in,then i used 45.7 and 45.8 for the frist round and scored a 49 total.then on the second round i used 45.9,46.1 and 46.2 and scored 57, total 106 out of a 126 total.i know my scoreing is a bit low,but i was to shoot these loads at a different shooting range to see which one grouped the best.but i was told by family members to shoot the 300 at the local (bundaberg) big bore range which just held the masters shoot.any how i got more vbulls(6's) with the 45.9 and 46.1 in the second round.i have picked these two loads again to shoot the 800 yard practice this sunday and seated the projectile out to 73.0mm which is 20thou off the lands when using 155 serria hpbts, which ever scores the highest should be the one i hope.

welcome to the world of handloading (AKA fart arsing around)

Sounds like u have a good plan there. Just make sure u watch for vertical dispersion...dont worry too much about horizontal stringing

Hello :D simon, today i shot the 800 yards with the load of ar2208 of 45.9 with 155 hpbt 's seated out to 73.0 o.a.l in the first round and scored 51 out of 60. then used 46.1 of the same powder and same o.a.l in the second round and scored 61 out of 66. lots of 6's in the second round :D .total score of 112 out of 126, i think that alright.so i will load up for 600 for next sunday with 46.1 and let you know if it is good or bad.i was shooting against a 300 winchester and he lost.

308 Loads

Post by peter t »

Hi Barry
You picked a great code of shooting in f/s, as too you're question
my son has the same rifle and shoots f/s, and the rifle shoots very well at our range at Nowra, from 300m to 800m the load he uses is 43.5 gns 2206H winchester casses 155 SMK 20 thou off the lands, this load will shoot .75 moa.
I tried several different load combinations but none shot better than the above load good luck. If you find a load that shoots better please let me know thanks and plenty of V Bull to you.
