22 wild cat

Just sitting here bored and started to think about about the different cal wild cats that are around in 22 cal. I was wondering if anyone has necked down a 6 x 47 lapua to take a 80 grn 223 projectle? Primarily it would be 5.56 x47.
My thoughts are the speed would be impressive, but at what cost to barrel life? Dies wouldn't be a problem by just changing the bushings in a 6 x 47 die, but how would you go about getting a chamber done? And what could accuracy be like?

Been done. Probably 3350ish FPS and 800 rounds barrel life.

Easier equivalents would be a 22 Creedmoor with small primer brass and reamers available and probably a better pick being a 22 dasher.

I thought it would have been done before. And I had an idea barrel life would low, but 800 rounds would be just as hard on the wallet as the barrel.

Yes.. just received my barrel back from my Gunsmith in 22-47 Lapua .254” neck, 28” 1:8 twist barrel , will be interested to see how much barrel life l will see? Going to run my 80 grain VLD Bullets to see how it shoots. Will try 2209 and RL 23 for a start.
Just waiting for dies to arrive, using my 6mm BR body die and 22 BR body to form cases down.
Will keep you posted on the progress, but quite a few top US PRS shooters going down the high performance 22 cal trying 80-90 grain bullets, less recoil, easy for quick follow up shoots and high BC Bullets

I have done a 20/250 AI for a customer. 8" twist barrel for 55 grn custom bullets over 4000 fps with about 6 to 800 round barrel life, very accurate and very flat.

now that skins are worthless thanks to the greenies, you have more choices in fox rifles.

With a 20-250 AI Id imagine the best bullet would be the one that holds together after exiting the barrel!

I think berger have stopped making their 55gr 20 cal. Ive got a singlr shot S491 action here that id like to do a 20 on and shoot heavies flat out.

I have had a 22-250 AI for over 20 yrs and had numerous barrels on it from 14-8 twist. It is only a hunting rig but I have taken it to the club on occasion for some fun. With an 8 twist 80gr Sierra @ 3500 was no problem and it shot pretty darn good considering it was not a Match barrel and action is an old M96. Not really practical for F Class as barrel life aint long but for hunting they are super fun!! Ive just got a new 12 twist Bergara going for Fox season, the 53 gn Varmaggeddon doing 4100 over the magneto speed aint no slouch and its flat as a biscuit to 400yds!!!

I dont know. . . . . 22 cals any bigger than a 222 never realy interested me that much. Once you get more than that I like the 6mm. 243 or 6 rem AI pushing 58-87gr pills is a good thing

Id like to do a 20ppc or 204 ruger at some stage

I have a customer that shoots a 220 Swift Imp, he drives 40 grainers @4650. Perfect crow medicine !!!

I played with a 22 PPC through a 1 in 8 inch twist barrel using 80 grainers.
Extremely accurate at the short ranges but I have never used it for decades. Really not sure why I built it ??????
