Juggernaught lengths?

Would anyone be able to help me out with the length of the 175 and 185 gn juggernaught?

My barrel is chambered for 155, I can squeeze a 168 vld in there but if possible I'd like to go a bit heavier.

Base to ogive and OAL would be perfect.

Hi Tim
I run the 185 at 2.925 COAL in my barrels but have a fairly long throat.
My 155 Hybrid load at 2.950 has very little neck engagement yet they are very accurate.
Both these loads are approx. .015 jump and less than .001 neck tension.
Ar2206H with 155 and 2208 with 185
There is very little effective difference between the performance of these loads due to the individual speeds obtained.

Sounds like the 185 is going to be too long.

Does anyone have the specs on the 175?

I'm running at 2.110 to the ogive, (2.82 COAL on the 168 VLD) which gives me a 20 thou jump.

With that seating and 44gn of 2208 behind it I have no space. It's not compressing but there will be a few flakes of powder kissing the arse of the projectile..
I've a ways to go yet I just don't want to have to buy 100 projectiles to find they won't fit :cry:

I have a half a box of the Berger 30cal 175 OTM tactical which I believe for all intents and purposes is almost the same as the 175gr Match Long range BT target. OAL is about 1.270". Base to ogive as measured with a Hornady comparator is .650" (or 1.650" including comparator body).

Unfortunately I sold my 185's a while ago so I can't compare them for you with my comparator. The info page on the Applied Ballistics web site indicate the 185's are a bit longer to the ogive but not enormously so.
What I can say is when I used the 175's before I switched to 155.5's, I seated them way out at about 2.885" over all length for about a .015" jump (magazine feeding was important to me so that was about as long as I could seat them) and I also seated them at 2.800" over all length and found them very accurate with a little jump and A LOT of jump. I was getting right at 2700fps with a book max load of 2208 out of a 26" barrel.

If that is the same projectile that you use Michael then there would be bugger all difference of projectile in case .....but a fair gain in BC....

I think for FTR the 185's would be great. From my experience and for my purposes AND in my rifle, I opted to drop down to the 155's from the 175's as I found the practical difference non-existent despite the better BC- 2900fps v 2700fps was the equaliser. In a long barrelled target rifle you'd be able to push the 175's and heavier fast enough to make an appreciable difference.

Sorry Michael I meant that comment for guidance to the OP. It very much depends on range and final velocity as to whether it is worth going this way. For magazine length you obviously get in trouble at the other end.....
