140gn 7mm wind drift

Post by Tim N »

Hi All,
One for those more tech savvy than me :!:
How dose the 140gn berger hunting projectile go at 600/1000 doing 3250f/s compared to:
168 @ 3100 and 180 @ 2950
The 140gn velocity is a guess
If anyone has spare time to figure this out it would be great

140.... 3.5moa @ 600, 6.7 @ 1000
168 ....3moa @ 600, 5.5 @ 1000
180 ... 2.9moa @ 600, 5.5 @ 1000

These are drift numbers for a 10mph cross wind.

Very interesting. I'm shooting 140gr VLD's at an average of 2928fps with an ES of 15 and an SD of 6 in my 7X47 from a 24" tubed hunting rifle.

I'm having Russel chamber a target gun with a 28" barrel to shoot 168's, I'm hoping to get 2850fps or so from the long tube with 168's but that may be optimistic given the small case capacity

Thanks Norm
Not a huge difference at 600
Might be a good lower recoiling option
Has anyone tried them in a bigger 7?
Do they work in a 9 twist?

As a hunting gun it's fantastic, hits hard and accurate but I'm waiting for a barrel to be chambered for a target gun. It won't out wind drift a SAUM shooting 180's but will be a fair bit ahead of my 6BR for wind drift

I like to give others a share of the good stuff :)

Actually, its taken me weeks to get even 2 projectiles shooting in my SAUM (the savage) , first I stumbled onto a ripper load for the 180 hybrid when I was down to my last 12 bullets (55.6g 09) (I have some coming now at last) , and then by dropping the load 1/2 grain (55g 09) I finally got the VLDs to shoot as well, although they drop a bit more. I am getting a bit sick of load testing that barrel so I think I will stop. Its an 8,5 twist HV Krieger.

The Barnard setup is 8 twist but I have some 183 sierras to try in that. I remember trying the 195gr but I did not find a load.
