6.5 x 47 Lapua Primer trial/comparison with BR4's and 450's

Following on from Dave McNamara's comments on a "284 Win Primer" thread here on OzFClass, that helped me to see that I had my primer usage "ass about" in my 6.5 x 47 Lapua and 6 x 47 Lapua i thought I had better have a look at his suggestion.

Rifle is an old Omark action, 30' Maddco 1 in 8" twist barrel, in a Wild Dog stock. It wears a March 5-50 x 56 scope with MTR4 reticle, in Badger Ordnance rings, on a Barry Lewis aluminium 20moa rail.
I did a couple of ladder tests first at 300 yards, to get rid of 25 or so 6.5 x 47 cases that had already been primed with CCI 450 Magnum primers......... gusty winds inc headwinds and very inconclusive results.
Then selected a load of 37.3 gn AR2208 with 130 gr Berger VLDs (this is 0.7 gr lighter than I had been shooting regularly) and loaded 5 of each Primer.
Fired them at 300 yards in an alternating pattern to be fair.....450 then BR4, then 450, then BR4 etc

450 Magnum primer vertical at 300 yards was 2.25" or approx 0.75 moa
BR4 primer vertical at 300 yards was 0.66" or approx 0.22 moa
We havent met yet, but I think I definitely owe you a big drink Dave.

hardly conclusive testing, you need to shoot more groups at various ranges in, dare I say, various conditions to see a trend.............
Nevertheless a promising start.

Yes - I agree with Ned. Don't go racking up the beers just yet Tony but it certainly looks encouraging and I hope it holds that form for you.

Should do, even if you have to bump it up or down a bit.

Nice to see <= 10fps spread on 5 shot groups. No doubt you will confirm this over club shooting or indeed more testing depending on your inclination. The formula you now have is a common one. somewhere around 37 gr and jammed 130 VLD. With the faster powder and jammed load you should have no ignition problems so can take advantage of the smaller primer. Good stuff.
