Thinking of a big Hitter or have l missed the Boat?.

Hi all after the ACT Queens and seeing the advantage of the Big Hitters when we started to get Dirty conditions it has started me thinking of trying one.But the restrictions that have been introduced in some states has me wondering.If l go down this path what cals or Energy limits do l have to stay away from.l don't won't to put time and effort into this just to find out that l can't use it.

I would definitely do a wait and see on this. I believe Vic will be going down a similar path to Queensland i.e. 3500ft-lb and 3274fps limits. Exactly how and when it will be enforced is still being discussed.

Just a general point about this issue and the forum. Its fine to give out information about what is a happening around Australia, but as some already know I've been enforcing a policy of not allowing a debate about the rights and wrongs of it on this forum. The reason is that it risks making things worse than they otherwise might be. In particular there will be irresponsible and uninformed comments that may be used against us by our natural enemy, the anti-gun lobby. It also risks damaging relations between our sport and the police. And at the end of the day, its very unlikely to help to get a better outcome. The QRA and NRA are working behind the scenes to get as good an outcome as they can. If you want to make suggestions about it, contact a member of your S & T Council.

And if you really want to make a difference, do it at the ballot box. I believe the Shooters and Fishers Party may be in the running for 2 Upper House seats in Vic.

To clarify any misconceptions, concerns or innuendo, I have a copy of the Victoria Police Licensing Regulation Division ( Firearms Registry ) Template Design Options for the VRA's Wellsford Range at Bendigo, Victoria. It states 'Range Suitable For Firearms as Indicated.

Centrefire & Rimfire Rifles, Muzzle Loading & Percussion Rifles & Pistols firing fragmented rounds only ..
Max Muzzle velocity 4100fps (1250 m/sec)
Max Muzzle energy 4182ft/lbs (5675 joules)
Ricochet Angle 550mils (31 deg)
Ricochet Distance each side of firing line 400 metres
Air Danger Height 315 metres (1000ft)
Backsplash Hazard hard targets, mounds and bullet catchers 50 metres

Be advised this is the template approval for Wellsford Range. Other ranges may differ due to geography or other possible safety / enviromental concerns and each individual range will and should have its own template.

Also remember this is the maximum allowable by Victoria Police. The range operators ( VRA ) can place their own restrictions on top of this which is their right remembering insurance premiums and guidelines. This template also doesnt over ride the SSR's or restrictions on firearms in certain competitions or class. A copy has been forwarded to the VRA who Im sure will field any queries regarding the range and what they deem permissible. In short we are more fortunate than some of our couterparts in other states so need to ensure that our ranges are used correctly, appropriately and more important WISELY ......

That is sound advice. Thanks for posting the limits.

So really there is no limit on the catridge being used, it is just about making sure that the loaded round complies with the power limit for that projectile.
