Click bang and fail to fire

Post by Brad Y »

Righto now I'm back from the queens I have taken my gun apart for new barrels and to work out why I'm getting firing issues.

Took the firing pin out and there was some oil under the spring on the pin itself. Also inside the bolt body there was oil as well which I have cleaned both out and dried so it's not there anymore. I was under the impression the internals of a bolt must be dry. Correct?

Another thing I'm looking at is the sear on the top of the kelbly competition trigger isn't contacting the firing pin square. I greased the side of the channel it runs in over the weekend as I was thinking that due to the not square contact the pin might have been running down the channel off centre and slowing the pin down. All strikes on primers were fairly light.

Any other thoughts?

I had a similar problem once and finally discovered the over travel screw had moved under recoil such that the trigger wasn't breaking clean and I guess drag was occurring. It's an easy one to check at least.

Brad,
Pierced any primers lately?
If so check that the blown out piece of primer is not still at the bottom of the bolt tube, because tha'ts usually where it finishes up.

Hi Barry

No never pierced a primer in my life. Have gone very close in a 22BR, but never in this rifle.

Ive taken it to the gunsmith and its in his capable hands. We already found one little point which is going to get some attention, just got to test it a bit more once the new barrel gets done. Sounds like a perfect job to do while forming cases.
