Hi Folks,
At my club we shoot from 200-900 yards.
Someone on the accurate shooter forum suggested loading some flat base projectiles in my 6x47 for the 200 yard shoot (we shoot from a bench at 200, but targets are pulled between shots).
I understand the consensus is that flat base projectiles are better for shorts (however I don't know why, exactly) , but how far out does "the shorts" extend?
If I was to load some Berger 88gr flat base (g1 bc 0.38 or so), at what point would I switch back to my 105 Hybrid load? Would 400 yards on a reasonable day still be a sensible distance with the 88fb?
A few reasons I want to do this - conserving my stash of hybrids is one.
Cheerio folks, and thanks in advance
Alex

Some 1000yd. bench rest shooters use flat based projectiles with very good results.

Re: Flat Base Projectile Pros/Cons/Maximum Distance
Flat based projectiles are fine at any single distance. The reason we prefer boat tailed bullets is that they manage to get through the all distances we shoot more efficiently - and they're easier to load in a case without skewing.

i would definitely give the 88's a try. Especially considering 500m or yards. I'm considering trying those in a 243 of ours.
if you do try them, could you let me know how they went at distance?
