modified no 4 for F-Class

Post by Quick »

Just wondering, does anyone use a No 4 action and barrel in .308 for F-Class shooting. Just wondering if they are any good.

I doubt that you could get a No 4 in 308 competitive for F class without doing a heap of work on it. There is also the problem of finding or making tapered scope mounts or a rail to give enough elevation adjustment for the scope, hardly worth the effort. Then there is the issue with suitable ammunition that is allowed to be used on the range now in these rifles. Best check out the NRAA website in relation to the safety alert that has been issued for military rifles and 308 ammo before you go to the effort or expense of setting up a No 4
Regards Malcolm.

NRAA specifically prohibits the use of the No 4 in .308 W calibre, as they have determined (with a great deal of justification) that the action is at risk with the pressures that the .308 may be loaded to. It was formerly approved for use with 7.62 NATO loads which were substantially below the pressures of current factory & handloads.
