The 7/6.5PRC can do what the 284win can but easier. So the brass life should be longer would be another benefit.

I dont think it matters too much if you are using 50gr of powder or 60gr at this level. Its efficient if the correct speed powder burns cleanly and gives you a velocity in the range you want. I agree brass is a worry, but if you buy it then you do not have to wildcat the chamber and preform the brass. I have seen that people are having issues with that too. So I am not sure its as clear cut as all that. But if the 6.5/7 works then thats fine !

As said above , the 7mm prc seems limited to hornady brass at the moment , and you may have to buy hornady ammo at $5 a pop to collect it..... wheras lapua 6.5prc brass is readily available most of the time

I have also heard from others using 54gr and landing around 2920-2940 ... Look forward to hearing how you go once dialled.

Did you end up doing a pressure ladder or know where you have found max limit with 09 ?

The p&v test barrel got finished yesterday. I took it home last night to double check seating depth on the bullets that will be shot thru it. Shipping the barrel to Hornady today and I'll probably ship the ammo down next week or the week after.

Then Hornady has to get us scheduled in for doing the testing work.

Hi Frank ... Do you know what Brass is being tested ? Have you had a chance to use any of the preproduction "7-6.5 PRC ADG" brass?

So to answer your question and bring everything up to date. I'm shipping 260 rounds in total out for pressure testing to Hornady today.

Bullets that I loaded included... 166 and 190gr Hornady ATIPs, 183 and 197 SMK's, 180 Berger Hybrids and 180 ELDM's.

All primers where CCI #200's.

Powder used was N555, H4831sc/AR2213sc and H4350/AR2209.

So to answer JezL's question on the brass.... Brass was all Hornady brass. Why? Because Hornady needed to know the lot number of the brass for hardness etc... and they supplied the brass at N/C. Why is this important? The brass can vary lot to lot in terms of hardness and by knowing the lot number of the brass they will have the data from previous testing on the lot of brass when it was made so there are less variables effecting the pressure calculations/data knowing the brass data.

We are trying to take as much variables out that can skew the data.

No I have not received any ADG brass as of yet. I'm still waiting on it. Even if I had it I couldn't have used it because there wouldn't be any data on the brass for Hornady to use and it could throw the pressure data off.

I supplied all the lot numbers for primers, powder and bullets. All bullets where seated .020" off the lands on a brand new barrel/chamber.

I don't have a pressure gauge on my press for seating bullets but I will say this and what I found interesting during bullet seating. I'll say the 183 and 197SMK bullets seated the smoothest with less felt resistance. I'd say the Hornady ATIP's came in a real close 2nd to the Sierra's. The Berger's and the Hornady 180ELDM's came in last. Does this mean they will shoot any different accuracy wise ( and this is not meant as an accuracy test ) hard to say but just based on feel... the Sierra's where the smoothest in how they seated into the cases.

Last Friday they completed all the testing with the N555 powder. He gave me some data over the phone yesterday morning. They told me by the end of this week all the testing will be finished and I'll get all the data sent over in a spread sheet.

Although this is meant as a pressure and velocity test I did know accuracy data would be recorded. I was asked on a different forum if I would post the accuracy data and I said, "NO!". I was asked, "why?" I said, "because someone will view that this load or bullet shot better than brand X and that shows that brand X's bullets are not accurate/good at all." There is no load tuning/bullet seating depths being tested etc... I seated all the bullets .020" off the lands on a brand new barrel.

What was interesting in what I was told was one of the powder charges for that I loaded for both 180 Bergers and 183SMK and a slightly reduced charge for the 190ATIPs.... I was told all of those rounds shot great. Accuracy was great and no bullet flat out shot any better than the other. The average accuracy vs the worse and best 10 shot group was only a .060" difference between them.

Stay tuned....

So attached is what I currently have for load data and pressure.

I'll update it as more becomes available.

Oh am I bad… yes all N555 load data shown. I forgot to type that in the beginning of the post. I put that on some of the other forums as well but forgot it here. My apologies. I’ll update that spread sheet with that on there. I also need to update some of the oal of the rounds.

More data coming…. I’ll be updating that spread sheet as I get more pressure and velocity data.

As an update to my original post with more data. So click on the attachment and it is currently up to date.

I'm still waiting on one load with the 190ATIPs and H4831sc as well as the loads with RL16.

When all the testing is completed they will take some of the original rounds they used for baseline and barrel break in... and rerun some of that ammo. That will tell us if and how much if it did...the barrel speed up and give us a pressure correction etc...The barrel is currently from what I'm seeing have 200 or so rounds on it.
